| It’s leas than $100 and good for 10 years. Why don’t people just get them? Gives you so many more travel options |
| You sound terribly sheltered, OP. Grow up. |
|
You sound like a 9.9 percenter:
https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/06/the-birth-of-a-new-american-aristocracy/559130/?single_page=true You do realize that a number of Americans haven't even been on an airplane before right? That even a trip a few states over is not only a big deal, but something that have to save up for months or years...? |
|
Not all people have need or means to travel oversea. You're narrow minded.
|
|
I have had a passport since I was 18 and travel frequently out of the US and don't understand how you can't understand that $100 is out of range for many many many Americans.
Plus you have to take the time out to get them. |
| That's okay. I don't understand people like you. |
| You didn't used to need one for Canada or the Caribbean which are where most Americans go. It's not like living in Europe where in 4 hours driving distance you can hit up several countries. |
|
It's $145, and good for 10 years if you're over 16.
For my family of 6, it's $750, and 4 of the passports are only good for 5 years. So, while I used to always have an up-to-date passport, we are no waiting to get new ones until we have reason to believe we might be going somewhere. |
^^ "now waiting" |
| Everybody be nice. OP is neither book-smart nor street-smart, and that is a difficult burden to bear. |
| I feel bad for people like OP who have no idea life exists outside her upper middle class bubble. No doubt she considers herself a tolerant person too. |
Where did you get this number? They cost $140. |
| I have to renew my passport this year and I was floored at how expensive it was! I can afford the additional $140 but there are a lot of people who can’t. |
| When I lived in Raleigh, NC a few years ago, I had to renew my passport and the Post Office offered passport renewal like once a month. Reflective of the demand down in that backwards red state, which is most of the US |
| I wish we had them for our kids. We missed out on a trip last year because it was less than 2 weeks out. They're just too expensive to pay for every 5 years for kids. That means I'd need to pay 4x ($115 x4= $460) for their passports before they're 18 and can get the 10 year passport. I'm sure when they're teens they'll come with us more, but as a baby and a toddler we don't take them with us overseas. |
