Hmmm: Harvard’s student body has been, approximately:

1/3 foreign students (who usually pay full tuition), plus

1/3 legacy students, leaving:

Just 1/3rd of seats left for the rest of deserving high school students to fight over, especially without an athletic hook (at least the S.Ct took away Harvard’s racist admissions preference).

No wonder it’s nearly impossible to get into Harvard.

I have no problem with the administration’s move today. My high-achieving but unhooked children never had any realistic chance of getting in anyway.

Absolutely. It's important to recognize that U.S. taxpayers have poured billions into Harvard University, yet they are often excluded from accessing its resources and opportunities. This disparity raises serious questions about the value and return on investment for the public.

Do you also think you’re entitled to be captain of the aircraft carrier your tax money bought? Harvard receives public funding for research that benefits all Americans.

No, but I do expect that the aircraft carrier would be used for my benefit instead of used to defend foreign countries and shoot me.

You know that foreign students pay a lot of money to go to school here? It's a valuable export.

And then they go out in the world eith a positive view of the US. Or they used to.

Folks do not realize that Fox News and rightwing think tanks are going to control the operations of the Ivy League.

It's literally what Mao, Stalin, et al did to their universities.

I don't think so. As had been pointed out, Harvard was around long before Trump got here and will be around long after he's gone.

Read the letter the Administration sent to Harvard. They demanded that Harvard cede to the federal government decisions about who gets admitted, who gets hired, which topics get taught, and the content of courses.

He's already a lame duck. They can survive a couple years of nonsense. It is mindless destruction but it's not any kind of fatal blow. not even close.

And what will they do if Harvard doesn’t comply?

Nothing will happen in the short term anyway why this gets litigated.

+1. Plenty of wealthy Americans willing to line up to take their place.

Exactly. I fail to see the problem here.

They don't engage as much in protests.

By the time MAGA is done, the country will swing hard towards socialism.

+1

Former Reagan Republic who would vote for AOC tomorrow if she runs.

First of the brain drain to the country that is coming. These are the future of research and development in all areas… but I guess those are frowned upon too.

Brain Drain already started with the NIH cuts, and those people have already gotten jobs at foreign research centers and private sector.

Anybody with skills and brains will have offshored themselves.

Good luck sustaining that welfare state. It's already on life support. Why bother working?

I don't think the students that like this level of government interference in higher education are going to be happy at a place like Harvard University. Why would they even want to go to Harvard?

It looks like Trump is going to win this one.

This is appalling and pure fascism. We need a militia.

Why are her requests then all related to nonimmigrant students? And 72 hours to comply? So, so petty.

How is it that people like Kavanaugh, Vance and Trump attended these universities and yet you still call them "leftist hotbeds?"

I mean, half the student bodies at these schools are conservatives, even if they aren't MAGAs.

DP. Please provide evidence from a neutral source to support the assertion that “half the student bodies at these schools are conservatives ….” Thanks in advance!

Maybe the level of government interference in the universities in their countries is high?

Only in the DMV would people read this article and possibly think, hmmmm, can I know expand my kid’s academic horizon beyond, say, a Top 30 liberal arts college?

The poster was responding to someone being happy that American students can take these places. American students that have no interest in and interacting and studying with students from other countries apparently.

People are not entitled to seats at Harvard. And the federal government has NO place dictating this on any level.

And Harvard is not entitled to federal monies. If they don't want to be under the government’s thumb, they have the option of not taking any federal funding.
