Seriously. But, I still welcome it. It's going to be fun watching Trump argue with people in his own party.

This is how statutes/regulations happen - in response to when something bad happens.

I'm a bit astonished that Grassley went along with this. On January 6th, he was third (I think?) in line to the throne.

Whirlpool just closed a factory in Iowa in response to this.

No evidence.

54% of US household appliances come from China. A lot of gypsum and lime used in construction comes from Mexico. A huge amount of nonferrous metal deeded for construction and manufacturing comes from Canada, it's not just lumber. There tariffs will crush American families.

Big layoffs happening at Stellantis and other companies as well, due to tariffs.

Trump promised us a "beautiful" economy but we are getting an ugly economy.

Yep, 900 being laid off at Stellantis (maker of Jeeps) as direct consequence of Tariffs.

Where have they been all this time? The damage is done.

Turns out Liberation Day meant we are all being liberated from our 401ks

Hmm. Lutnick must have misspoke then. He said that the U.S. would have a “leap” in manufacturing jobs starting today. He must have meant into the abyss.

None of which matter because the calculation is based on their trade deficits. Vietnam and Thailand can't convert their people to a corn based diet.

Who said they were unfair? They are economically destructive to the US at the rates and breadth Trump is doing them.

People on this thread, saying it is a tax on Americans, hurting the poor and helping the wealthy.
Don't other countries realize this when they are putting tariffs up?

sure, but the US started this trade war right now. It's like saying Ukrainians shouldn't fight back against the Russians because their citizens are dying. When another country tries to hurt you, you don't just roll over because your people might get hurt.

The other countries put up their tariffs first.

Don't ask Grok about tariffs, it doesn't understand them. Use your own brain instead of a chatbot. Other countries did not put up their tariffs first. When Trump uses the words "reciprocal tariffs", he is wrong. He is using the wrong words. These tariffs aren't reciprocal, we are raising them first.

What are the tariff rates for US goods being sold in Vietnam?
How about Europe?
Are you saying the answer is zero?

Who cares? We barely export any goods. We are not competitive in manufacturing because our labor is too expensive.

Disagree. Congress is starting to get up off the couch and getting ready to go back to the office and get some work done.

While Trump and Project 2025's pkan has been to expand presidential power, it has always been much more likely that they would actually curtail presidential power by overreaching and getting limited by the other branches.

Did you know that other countries have different internal economic features and social safety nets?

Other first world countries have universal healthcare and low cost universities. And a strong social safety net. The little we had in the US is being taken away right now.
