DP. Who/what on earth are you still babbling about? You've already posted about this and it's entirely off-topic. And as usual, you're speaking to everyone as if they themselves are "guilty" of whatever it is you're obsessing over. Stick to the topic of this thread. |
Speaking of simpleminded... the point (which you clearly missed) was to mock liberals who will call out "misogyny, sexism, and patriarchy" whenever it suits their needs. If this was a liberal justice whose wife had done something similarly political and was being called out on it, you'd be invoking all of the above in outrage. In short, we are laughing at you and your constant double standards. |
Actually, that was an astute point. Many MAGA types think Judge Merchan can’t be impartial because of his daughter’s political connections, but also think it’s ridiculous for anyone to suggest that Justice Alito should recuse himself from January 6th cases because his wife has a bad habit of flying flags that were co-opted by the insurrectionists. |
Flying the flag one time like that is a "bad habit"? Good grief. |
New York law 100.3 e(1)d(iii) states “a judge shall disqualify himself or herself in a proceeding in which the judge’s impartiality might reasonably be questioned, including but not limited to instances where the judge knows that the judge or the judge’s spouse, or a person known by the judge to be within the sixth degree of relationship to either of them, or the spouse of such a person has an interest that could be substantially affected by the proceeding.” New York State Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics, Opinion 673 (1995)(“Whether a judge’s impartiality might reasonably be questioned is necessarily a question of fact in each case. Even if the judge believes that he or she can be impartial, the judge should recuse himself or herself if an objective, disinterested observer could reasonably question the judge’s impartiality.”). There is a significant factual difference between Judge Merchan and Justice Alito. The fact that the Washington Post passed on the story 3+ years ago is indicative that an objective, disinterested observer would not question Justice Alito's impartiality. The "Appeal to Heaven" flag is a legal flag and until recently flew at the San Francisco Civic Center along with the Gasden Flag (Don't Tread on Me). |
Ah the significant factual difference in Republicans' eyes is that Alito is a MAGA Republican and Merchan is liberal. Come on, confess - THAT is the difference in your eyes. You think when a Republican does it, there's no problem. |
Twice for days. |
It's not liberals who have a history of defending the egregious errors of their own. It's the GOP who defends defends defends no matter the crime. Trump COULD shoot someone on 5th Avenue and you would defend him. We all know it. |
They flew the American flag upside down (which really is verboten), then, after that, flew a flag associated with Christian Nationalist at their NJ beach dwelling over the course of two different summers. So yeah, a "bad habit." |
|
Today, I learned that right wing nationalists that usually freak out if a person kneels or doesn’t take their hat off during the National Anthem love to fly the flag upside down. Why not? Everything else about them is upside down
Apparently , this is showing the utmost respect to this great nation . |
LOL I don't think the republicans on this thread realize that. |
They are total hypocrats with bad faith. |
You win the internet today. |
This. I truly never understood why people were so hateful to Colin Kaepernick for kneeling during the National Anthem. But to the GOP, a Christian nationalist flag and an upside down American flag are totally fine and Yankee doodle dandy. |
+1 Pretty amazing that his argument is that he had nothing to do with a major political statement flying over his two houses. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/29/us/alito-supreme-court-recusal-flag.html
