You mean poor people aren't selfish and opportunity hoggers?

Yup. Some wealthy parents think they are entitled to TJ.

And apparently some poor people think they are entitled to TJ.

TJ has not been remotely representative of Fairfax county and change is long overdue.

You can say the same thing about a lot of things. Librarians have not been representative of Fairfax County, for example. If free choice is a thing, you cannot force representation in people's behavior.

Every system has its flaws. And that is why there is scope to challenge and change within the framework of the Constitution- which presents an absolute boundary to those challenges and changes. And that is what is happening here.

You can argue that the Constitution promotes systemic racism and systemic classism. But this is not the forum to fight that battle.

I would support affirmative action for future librarians ! Maybe less books by black authors will get burnt in the name of “ no CRT” 🙄.

Librarians have been representative. This isn’t Alabama.

It should be a resource for the whole community, not just a privileged few.

What opportunities do you think poor people are hoarding?

No, they don’t. But they would like to believe that if they have a bright kid who’s STEM-capable, that they’ll have a shot even though they can’t afford the exam prep.

So the lefties decided that the change they wanted for now was a more "representative" TJ even though TJ will always be elitist, divisive, and anything but representative of the overall demographics of FCPS students.

You can give them what they want now, and they'll eventually be back with some other complaint to revise TJ admissions yet again, redraw the Langley boundaries in the name of "equity," get rid of AAP entirely, etc.

They are deeply invested in defending the continued existence of TJHSST under the new policy because they see it as a personal win, and they want to always be on the winning side. They don't like losing any more than anyone else; that's why someone like Sujatha Hampton, the education head of the Fairfax NAACP, is now completely losing her marbles now because the School Board didn't pick her preferred candidate for the next superintendent.

Has anyone told them that they're clearly racist for having those thoughts?

People hoard whatever resources they do have. Calling people opportunity hoarders is like calling people food eaters. I can't believe they eat food. The nerve of them!!!!

Then stop the exam prep. Why support measures that throw the baby out with the bathwater?
