To me, It shows how we are all socialized to be more sympathetic to protecting men’s feelings and dignity than women’s. They both behaved badly but she is being blamed for everything in the toxic relationship. He was twice her age when they met, consumed mind boggling amounts of alcohol and drugs for decades, and is not taking any responsibility for his part in the mess. He had other ways of redressing his sense of being wronged than dragging them both through a public trial.

I am arguing with my teenage daughter trying to get her to see how unfair it is to blame everything on Amber. DD and her friends think Amber is to blame for ruining his illustrious career while I believe he did that in his own. Amber’s career and reputation has been savaged as well. DD tells me that the internet is siding with Johnny.

The world wants a villain (preferably female), while shared culpability, pesky details and nuance just get get in the way of one sided story telling.

I disagree. We are only now hearing Depp’s side of things while Amber’s take has been out there for over 5 years. This is the first time people really got the opportunity to compare what went on in that relationship from both Amber and Jonny’s perspective.

+1

They’re both nuts. No one heard Depp’s side up until now.

Yes, this is clearly what is objective is—to get his side out there. Don’t blame him. Even if neither comes off well, clear she was an abuser too who regularly instigated their altercations including the hitting.

Do you think they are evenly matched physically? Wondering also about how the cycle of violence plays into this. Am not familiar with any of the cases or their relationship

I haven’t seen any evidence that Depp ever hit her.

I haven’t seen any evidence that Depp ever hit her.

His witness, their therapist, said they were both physically abusive to each other.

Understand. And Heard’s side will probably have some evidence. Just saying haven’t seen any compelling evidence of physical abuse by the hands of Depp yet.

What was his addiction like with her and other women? I had read she helped him detox. Was this something everyone was doing for him or just specifically her? Did he get worse or better with her?

What does amber being abusive have to do with the trial? Isn’t his contention that she lied in the op Ed and it cost him opportunities?

As has been said in the thread repeatedly, he is going forward with this case to expose her behavior. It’s not about the story that she wrote.

No. I followed the London trial, as did many of my friends (we were in a stricter lockdown in the UK so probably paid more attention to it than we would normally have done). Amber was insufferable, just a truly dislikable, shifty person. And her behaviour in court was so bizarre: the big gestures she made with her arms while speaking and the way she repeatedly kept stuffing food in her mouth during her deposition was so confusing. The woman has no self-awareness and she presents like an indulged, histrionic child. We were all shocked at the outcome of the trial.

I looked this up out of curiosity.
I’ve never heard Amber interviewed or anything before, nor have I seen any of her movies.
I don’t know if she’s on drugs or proudly stupid or what, but she does not seem like a fully functioning adult. She doesn’t seem to understand the questions, she can’t put together a coherent answer, she’s eating cookies and looking around and waving her hands around. I have never seen anyone behave this way.
Is she intellectually disabled?

That was based only on what the therapist was told, though, correct? Did the therapist see signs of physical injury establishing that he was physically abusive towards her?

She strikes me as someone who is both stupid and very, very coddled. She is used to having a team of people assemble to praise, pet, or soothe her. The big arm gestures read as something she learned in during acting instructions. It doesn’t work here, though. The eating during deposition also reads as childish, as if people around her advised her to put her cookies away before she talked, but she refused because she’s used to having a captive audience who ignore her infantile actions.

You clearly didn’t watch the UK deposition. She’s an idiot at best. At worst, it’s all a calculated image and she’s just a manipulative, horrible person.

It was their mutual counselor though. If he had disputed hitting her wouldn’t the therapist note that?

Did you watch the deposition? It’s so shocking, I watched it several times. The eye rolling, facial twitching, inability to sit still, I felt like I was watching a child.

Did Heard ever report that to the counselor with him present during the session? Are there notes of the counselor asking him about it? I didn't watch all of the counselor's testimony.

A mentally stable woman would not be attracted to a guy like this. During the UK trial, he claimed he was sober when he vandalized the rental home with blood and paint. Sober or not, that’s crazy behavior. I believe she has lied about a lot and is a gold digger. I also believe he likely hit her at least once and he’s also a lunatic. Both are messed up and trashy but I hope people are taking this opportunity to watch and learn. Stay far away from these two whackos. Hollywood is not aspirational to anyone with a sound mind. She was right about one thing. He’s washed up and it’s due to his own drug fueled behavior. What a train wreck these two are.
