I don’t love god

Because he doesn’t exist. Gods were created by man many years ago to explain the unknown. But now we know better. Belief in god is really an anachronism.

Who is the "we" you are referring to who know better? The 3.1 percent of the population who are atheists but clearly are sufficiently superior to speak for everyone else?

We the people who believe in science. We know about the solar system now. Diseases. Weather. Etc. We don’t need to explain these things with something else.

For example, earthquakes were caused by various gods/monsters before we had a better understanding of geology:
http://www.bgs.ac.uk/discoveringGeology/hazards/earthquakes/mythsAndLegends.html

“Traditional stories from China and India suggest that the Earth is held up by several elephants that stand on the back of a turtle. The turtle is balanced on top of a cobra. When any of these animals move, the Earth trembles and shakes.”

“Stories are told of Poseidon striking the ground with this trident, which triggered earthquakes.”

“In the Pacific North West, traditional stories speak of shaking and flooding from the sea by referring to a struggle between a large bird, the Thunderbird, and a whale. ”

You understand everything in the universe?

I believe in the spiritual realm, but not God as we know it.

Of course not. And I don’t need any gods/mythical creatures to explain any of life’s mysteries.

We now know about viruses and bacteria. So we (most of us) no longer think an angry ghost caused that cold we had last week.

https://www.ancient.eu/article/51/egyptian-medical-treatments/
“The most common reasons for disease were thought to be sin, evil spirits, an angry ghost, or the will of the gods to teach someone an important lesson. ”

The wheel is still pretty useful. Gods/mythical creatures? Not really.

and thanks for expressing your point of view on an open forum that is about religion and does not require that participants have only one view of religion.

+3. And let's keep science and investigation a priority so we can keep learning more and forming our lives. I'm tired of people's beliefs in gods/fairies/supernatural dictating our society.

Finally. An interesting thread on the Religion forum!

I am conflicted. As a scientist, yet someone with a Catholic background, I agree with all of what OP says. Yet it would be nice of there were a higher power.

If anyone has read the Isasc Asimov's short story The Last Question, it speaks to that.

I can understand the conflict. I always found Francis Collins' views to be fascinating even though I am a firm non-believer myself:

I also thought about belief/faith being a need at my father's funeral when several friends of his who were scientists (like him) spoke about their faith. These are people who are smart and thoughtful, and I was struck that they continued to have a wish, if not a feeling, of an overarching spirituality. My dad was less so himself but it was beautiful.
