I always found Francis Collins' views to be fascinating even though I am a firm non-believer myself: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/03/collins.commentary/index.html I also thought about belief/faith being a need at my father's funeral when several friends of his who were scientists (like him) spoke about their faith. These are people who are smart and thoughtful, and I was struck that they continued to have a wish, if not a feeling, of an overarching spirituality.
