Has anyone been? What's the over under on having to see a trump? I don't mind melania but another one?

I have always wanted to do this and my kids are only going to be this young in trump world so very conflicted

Go but don't tell anyone you went.

Awful. I wouldn’t go.

Melania is a brother, she’s just as bad as the rest of them.

Really? Conflicted? Sure, your kids are only young once but this is something you’ll bring up later in life. How do you want that to play out? Good luck with that.

Going to the Easter egg roll isn't an endorsement of the politics of the white house. Or it never has been before.

I would love to go but I would honestly be embarrassed to tell people we went during the Trump era.

I've volunteered twice (during the Obama years). I saw the girls but never saw Obama.

It's fine and pretty non-partisan. It's an easter egg roll, not a political rally. Go if your kids like people dressed as characters and don't mind large crowds.

I went once during the Bush years and once during the Obama years and never saw the POTUS or FLOTUS during either of those times. I saw Malia once the second time, but only briefly.

It's not like you really mingle with them or anything.

Chances of seeing either are slim. Did Trump even go last year? I feel like he skipped the even last year altogether.

We went during the Obama admin and are really opposed to Trump. That said, if someone offered us tickets this year, we’d go again. It’s fun for the kids, there are characters, picture opportunities with the WH in the background, and the actual sitting President is pretty absent. We were actually somewhat close to the WH when the Obamas came out and it was still bascially a non-partisan event. If you want to “avoid” the Trumps, it’s very easy to do so—if they’re actually out there during your shift, stay away from the egg rolling and the story read aloud areas. There’s plenty of other activities to do.

Plus the weather is supposed to be decent. If you hate it, you can always bail and just spend a family day around the monuments.

(Assuming all parties involved are anti-Trump, since that’s your insinuation)

“We took the kids to the Easter egg roll at the White House one year. They had so much fun! Here are some of the pictures. Here is our souvenir egg. Here’s Larla asleep in the stroller on the way home. Look at her curls! Larlo really enjoyed the story time. Such a great memory, I loved living close enough to DC to do stuff like this.”
“Wow, looks cool. Did you meet the President?”
“No, never got to see the first family.” Or “Yes, actually! We were right there when they came out, and Larla shook his hand.”
“Who was the President when you went?”
“Trump. It was still fun though.”
“Looks like it! Lucky you guys!”

THE END. How would it play out later in life when you tell your kid you refused tickets to a kids event because you didn’t like the administration? Who knows?

Hahaha. It’s pretty hilarious to hear someone rail against Trump continually and fairly constantly, *except* when they want to tag along to the Easter Egg Roll. NBD, but don’t be such a total hypocrite. Says more about you than him. Not a fan, so I wouldn’t go, no matter how I scored tickets. No thanks.

We lived in DC for a few years for my DH's job and I could never get tickets. So OP, if you are conflicted, let the tickets go to someone else; there are many people of both persuasions that would like their kids to have the easter roll experience. It's a shame to have them go to someone luke-warm about it.
