Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Does anyone have any thoughts on Dr. Laura Schlessinger? Any die-hard fans? I listen to her show on Sirius XM and find that I agree with a lot of what she says, but not absolutely everything.

I used to like her, then she got scary, judgy and weird. Plus her personal life is a mess, or was, so it's not like she had her sh!t together.

She's a hypocritical, unhinged hack who some how managed to keep her career going. She's irrelevant today. Her 15 minutes of fame was in the 90s.

OP here. I'm a little confused - she flaunts around her PhD, but apparently it's in physical therapy?

I like listening to her and find her advice useful 75% if the time. In fact, her advice on a certain aspect of marriage contributed to my husband and I finding a better way to understand one another.

I guess I think it's just a bit misleading because she'll say "I'm the one with the PhD" or use the PhD to make herself sound more qualified, but really she just received a certification and the PhD is irrelevant.

I agree with a lot of what she says in terms of managing a relationship and improving communication. However, her views on childcare are archaic and she thinks anyone who isn't a SAHM home-school their children is a total piece of shit. She does not come across as very compassionate. Plus, I believe she went through a divorce herself and has a troubled child.

I thought she was dead. Seriously, she has been around for over two hundred years!

She was fun back when her kid was young. Then she found God, lost God, lost her show, got a new one, and hardened her opinions so much that if you've heard one show you've heard them all.

She also says things like "a woman won't be happy unless she marries an alpha male." She's referred to public schools as "poison" and questioned the motives of anyone who would opt to send their kids to such institutions.

I like her about 75% of the time. Her feelings about divorced people with young kids dating/remarrying is spot on and everyone should follow that advice at a minimum.

Look, it takes time, money, dedication and intelligence to obtain a Ph.D. I'm not arguing that. But to be highly qualified in one subject does not automatically make you qualified in all subjects.

Yes, she was much more nuanced in the early days. I liked her show then, before her fame peaked.
