| I have been taking pure barre classes almost daily for two months. I’ve gained 5 pounds and my booty is now much bigger. I have it been eating that much more. What gives? Why am I getting bigger all over? |
| Op here. I have not been eating much more |
| Sounds like you're gaining muscle. |
| You've got a Barre Butt! It's probably just lifted and toned, and you just never really noticed your butt before. Don't worry... it's not going to keep getting bigger. |
| That’s exactly what I need. |
|
You are gaining muscle mass, and that's a good thing. Your butt is getting stronger, and lifting. That's good too.
Focus less on weight and how you look. Do you appear more toned and stronger? Do you like the way you are fitting in clothes? I gain weight when I workout because I eat more to compensate for the energy I'm expending. I keep the snacking healthy of course but to me it is about how I look - and sometimes gaining muscle weight actually makes me look better and less sticky thin. |
OMG - I have been wondering this same thing! I posted about it on the diet/exercise forum about a month ago. at least now I know I'm not alone. I've been taking Barre for 6 months, 2-3 times per week. My jeans are tight , and like you I have not been eating more. I won't get on the scale as that would probably freak me out.
All that said, my butt is for sure lifted and rounder - which is actually what I wanted out of the class. That plus toner legs. My stomach is really toned now. I dug around and found a lot of articles about this exact issue. and all of them say to just keep doing it and eventually you'll start losing inches as the fat starts burning away. I hope so - because I love my barre class and don't want to stop doing it

Definitely what happens to me when I do Barre3. My body tones and sometimes I even go up a couple pounds but I look leaner and feel better. |
| If you're genetically predisposed to have a booty, then barre, yoga, lifting, cycling, and other exercises will reveal your butt's full potential. Some embrace it, others find it a flaw in this skinny-obsessed society. Personally, I went from a size 6 (with the ability to wear things off the rack) to a size 10 (with the need to get EVERYTHING tailored) when I got into a good workout regime. Some day, clothing manufacturers will catch up, and shopping for a new wardrobe won't be such a soul-crushing experience. I look fantastic naked, though. |
Op here. You are certainly not alone pp! It’s driving me crazy because my body is definitely different now after two months. I love the classes though and bought an annual auto pay membership so hopefully things may change and I lose a few inches! If not, we’ll then I’ll have a new big booty. ? |
I almost jumped to the unlimited membership, but am now rethinking this. For now I'm sticking with my monthly, 10 times per month membership until I start to notice that my jeans are no longer tight. |
That's only half of the equation... were you doing a different workout before? It is possible that you are burning fewer calories now, but if you're eating the same amount, that would result in weight gain. Not saying it's true one way or the other, but make sure you look at this from all angles to make the best educated guess as to what is happening here. |
this is the other PP who is also experiencing what OP is experiencing. I have really evaluated what I've been doing to make sure I wasn't missing anything that could be resulting in my tighter fitting jeans, other than the fact that I added barre into my workout. I can absolutely tell you that what I am experiencing is because of barre, and only barre. I've read up on it, and we are not at all alone in this "phenomenon". So much so that there are quite a few articles/blog posts about this exact thing. I do Bar Method, and found this on their website. I'm okay with what's going on, so long as the "slim down" starts happening soon! https://barmethod.com/fitness-tips-why-you-might-bulk-up-before-you-slim-down/ https://barmethod.com/play-long-game-bulking-slim/ |
| NP here - I just started a Barre class recently and already noticed more muscle tone in rear and legs. DH noticed, too. For those who have done this for longer - will I ever improve the little bit of sagging at the bottom (more inner area) of my rear end? What makes that go away. I recently noticed this and had a flashback to seeing my mother's bare rear when I was a child. LOL |
This is pathetic and sad. You would potentially give up an exercise you admittedly love and gives you a multitude of health benefits because your jeans are a little tighter? |
