"The state police said that Mr. Orrego-Savala was living in the United States illegally, having been deported to Guatemala twice before. He had been convicted of driving under the influence in California in 2005, and his record also showed “many other” misdemeanor convictions and arrests in Indiana and California, said Nicole Alberico, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal immigration agency. I.C.E. has formally asked the county jail where Mr. Orrego-Savala, who was using the alias Alex Cabrera Gonsales, is being held to continue detaining him for federal immigration agents. But before he is deported again he is likely to be prosecuted locally for causing the fatal crash, and federal prosecutors said on Tuesday that they had charged him with illegally re-entering the country after being deported." Only the best, right liberals? |
I am glad you are so concerned with traffic safety, and support Vision Zero in the community where you live. |
|
Should we condemn all white middle aged men every time there is a mass shooting?!
You can pick out horrible stories for every race, gender, religion, and age that exists. Grow up and stop trying to be controversial. Your argument is tired. |
|
I get it OP, I do. This is a terrible tragedy.
But can you see how it rings hollow, when gun violence kills many thousands more people - American citizens - and the GOP broadly seems to just sit on their hands about it? Would you be satisfied if we starting commenting that our thoughts and prayers are with this family - would that be enough action for you? I doubt it. If your concern is mortality secondary to illegal immigration, the data do not make a compelling case. |
DP. Weird argument. You are ignoring that the white, middle-aged men to whom you refer have a right to be in this country. The drunk driver in the story is an illegal immigrant, previously deported, and never should have been here in the first place. If immigration law were enforced, the Colts player would be alive today. |
DP. Our system will never be perfect and we will never keep out everyone who should never have been here in the first place. This man will be tried and found guilty and sent to prison. That's a good thing, not a bad thing. The obvious way to discourage people from coming to this country or returning after being deported would be to prevent them from finding employment. It would be hard on employers, though. It would be hard on our whole economy, driving up prices here and possibly reducing some conveniences there. We, as a country, are not ready to take this step. |
Yes, this is a great organization. But what on earth does it have to do with illegal aliens driving drunk and killing people? |
Obviously they, too, should never have been here in the first place. |
|
If illegal immigrants were the only people who killed others in DUI accidents, you might have a point OP.
But they aren't, so you don't. |
Well, we certainly condemn the white middle aged men who commit the mass shootings, don't we? As we should. So why is it that you refuse to condemn the illegal immigrants who commit crimes? Why are they somehow a protected class? I don't see you condemning this guy, yet I'm sure you wrote umpteen posts regarding the Las Vegas shooter, right? But somehow, a guy who has been deported TWICE from this country, but still re-entered, has been arrested multiple times, including for driving drunk, and who has now killed two American citizens, gets a free pass from you because... why, exactly? And as for "tired arguments," how about the one liberals constantly use in situations like this: "Well, if it hadn't been him, it would have been someone else driving drunk!" Um, WTF? If this guy hadn't been in the country, the chances of these two men being hit by a drunk driver is miniscule. And we can't do anything about our own citizens driving drunk, unfortunately. But we can certainly prevent people living here illegally from doing so. Stop making up tired, lame excuses. |
| What't the big deal? The dude was deported twice and now will be prosecuted for the drunk driving and deported again. Isn't that what we all want? |
+1 And his Uber driver, who was also killed. |
The big deal is that someone's DEAD as a result of lax immigration enforcement. |
^^^ oops....just saw the post above mine? TWO people dead. |
