Starting Whole30 in January.
(No haters, please.) I don't want to focus on the weight loss part, because I think that's setting us up for failure, but if you did it: how much weight did you lose? Also: did you keep going with it? Whole60, or 90? |
I did sort of a modified Whole 30 last January. I'm a vegetarian, so I allowed soy and legumes and even a very small amount of bread. I did cut out sugar and cut most alcohol, though I cheated a few times. I didn't take it too seriously, I just wanted to stop the Holiday party orgy of gluttony that I had been engaging in previously.
I lost 11 lbs in one month. More interestingly, once I resumed real life, I found that I didn't crave carbs - I ate a lot less pasta and bread than I previously did. I do now eat sugar and dairy and bread, but I'm also still down those 11 lbs. My friends with whom I did the diet were really super strict about it and they've all gained back the weight they lost that month. I think maybe it's because I really ended up eating a modified version of the diet after the 30 days, but they bounced back to their regular diets when the month was up. |
Thanks PP. Our hope is that on day 30 we will feel so fantastic that we'll continue on with it. We do NOT want to go back to our usual ways on day 31! |
Yes I continued most of the year. Breaks occurred from Halloween to after Xmas. I feel so much better and my autoimmune symptoms are almost gone when I stick to it. |
I did not lose weight but I cut out artificial sweeteners totally and never went back. |
I lost 10 on the whole 30. I cut out some things entirely and haven’t gone back in 4 years - mostly reading labels and not buying items with added sugar - pasta sauce, soups, etc. I added items into my diet like Lara bars for snacks and spaghetti squash for pasta.
I’m starting again on Monday. |
I did not lose any weight, but I did come to a realization that even though I eat few sweets and mostly cook our meals at home...I was still consuming tons of sugar in things like pre-mixed spice packets.
I did Whole 30 + the slow roll reintroduction (20 days reintroducing a new food every 3 days). After the whole experience, though, I realized that I'm really sensitive to starchy carbs. I eat very little rice nowadays, and I've more or less stopped using pre-mixed spice packets. I've lost about 10 pounds since then...but starting Whole 30 also coincided with my stopping breastfeeding. So I expected to start losing weight anyway. |
^^PP again. For me, I think I ate too many nuts on the whole 30. I'm pretty active, and with a toddler and pre-schooler I was really hungry. Adding back in whole fat dairy is what I think helped me lose weight after the Whole 30 ended. It's filling but far less calories. |
I lost 12 lbs and felt fantastic! I did it in July and pretty much ate very healthy ( did eat bread again post whole 30) until December! The eye opener for me was how I did a lot of mindless eating( snacking on goldfish when my kids had them, eating when I wasn’t hungry) and also how much dairy I ate. I will likely do it again in March but want to try eating healthy on my own. |
I just did Whole 30. Lost about 7-8 lbs but wasn't overweight to start, just trying to get rid of post baby weight. You do get sick of meat after a bit (I jokingly called it a meat cleanse.)
I used the our paleo life.com recipes and shopping list, they were really great (and free.). Key is to shop the perimeter of the grocery store - veggies, fruits, meats, eggs. Also I found preserves like artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, and olives really helpful, also sweet potatoes and dried mangos are great! I like to cook but it is a lot of peeling, chopping and cooking from scratch so be prepared to have a new weekend hobby for a bit. My starch and sugar cravings were finally really low by week 3 & Energy level noticeably higher in afternoons. Had some weird diarrhea at one point I think from too many nuts/coconut fat. Started eating rice and that helped. I keep the no bread and basically no refined sugar part still going. I added back in rice, some dairy (butter, milk in coffee). Doesn't feel like much of a sacrifice anymore (even though I used to make brownies 2x's a week!!!). It really helped shape some healthy habits, surprisingly. Am Only in month 2, though. Good luck! |
