+1000. This is what's wrong with America. Should Disney have posted signs warning about alligators? Probably. But who is ultimately responsible for this tragedy? The parents who allowed their 2 y/o to wade/swim in 12 inches of water at 9:30 despite the "No swimming" signs. The average 2 y/o is about 2 feet & this child was in 1 foot of water at night. Of course something tragic could happen. Unfortunately, it did and the child paid the ultimate consequence. I don't understand how anyone could think Disney is responsible for this.[/quo

People like you scare the hell out of me. Heart of stone.

Standing in ankle deep water with his Father. We have done the same thing while we were staying there. Horrific.

I'm sorry--that worry is also filled with brain eating bacteria. The parents were already playing with fire letting their child play in the water.

Are we 100% certain that this is the first sighting or attack, ever?

How would they know this? Plus, wading is not swimming. Anyone would have done the same thing. Of course there should be warning signs about gators. That poor, poor family and that poor child. I can't even think about it.

Someone I know saw a 6 footer on the same beach in January.

And here is the level of detail on signage at Yellowstone, but I can't imagine Disney doing something like this as it is not the tone they set for the resorts and park:

Only Disney would know that and a lawsuit will issue subpoenas for email history and testimony from groundsmen. I'm willing to wager $100 that there is documented evidence that Disney knew about gator activity near the beach.

They are negligent. The only issue is if they can pressure the Nebraska couple to agree to a settlement. Lots of Disney dirty laundry will be aired in a court case.

Disney was playing with fire.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but authorities have already found and euthanized at least 4 other alligators in that same body of water. There had to be other sightings by staff. I'm sure they didn't want to scare away tourism dollars by posting more specific signage.

Ignorance isn't an excuse for doing something dangerous.

I'm not going to read 47 pages but I'm sure I'm agreeing with someone that it's horrific and tragic, but it's a freak accident. There are bears in Virginia and while I've never seen one in my yard, a bear could certainly wander onto my property and hurt or kill me.

Hilton Head?! I may never go to the beach again. Looked up the habitat and NC isn't safe either apparently.

I mean, call me stupid but I just had no idea they roamed the Carolina beach areas too.

Alligators in the US usually stick to freshwater marshy areas or ponds/lakes. You wouldn't see them at the beach. I'm sure quite a few live in the marshy areas around 95 in South Carolina.

Putting alligators in a MAN-MADE lake at KIDS Disney resort is begging for a major lawsuit. Gross idiocy!!!!!!
