The USs Columbia flew the stars and bars for the entirety of world war 2.

That's "stating facts?"

I guess that's like saying the Republican Party is a little boys club.

Have it your way...

You should learn to quote. Or rather pay attention to what you're reading. BTW, most parties are boys' clubs. You didn't know that?

And you're just a juvenile little kid playing games.

Ugh. If you don't want to do your research before spouting nonsense, keep quiet.

The claims of some posters here that nobody knew of or displayed the flag intil segregation debates in the 60's has been soundly debunked.

Two pictures of the same guy doesn't "soundly debunk" anything.

They are not “the same guy.”

That was an enclave of "Confederatos" - Americans who chose to go to South America rather than accept the terms of the South's surrender. Certainly not folks anyone could ever consider "patriots" - and what exactly did you think Carter should have done differently - tear the flag down, stomp on it and set it on fire?

Ugh? How about YOU do YOUR research. Nikki Haley was not a "seamstress" and a 43 year old woman is not a "girl."

Purely military context - which is very different from a bunch of rednecks who never served driving around southern towns in their 4x4 with a big Confederate banner flying, while yelling expletives at blacks on the street. TONS of videos showing that are circulating on social media right now...

Well I take the picture to mean that carter didn't find it to be a vile symbol of racism- heck he's smiling ear to ear in the picture.

^ The Confederate Battle Flag has no authoritative meaning, it was never formally adopted by anyone. As such, it is purely a function of what people make it and what they use it for. And given that so many racist organizations like KKK, Aryan Nations and others have used it extensively as part of their own symbols - and continue to use it in the context of racism, that makes part of its societal definition a racist symbol.

If you are unaware that its bad history, bad associations and bad connotations by far outweigh anything good associated with it, then you are thoroughly tonedeaf and out of touch.

That's what all politicians do. Bush was grinning ear to ear meeting with Putin, too.

Not used by the aryan nations- they are into nazi symbols. I don't really think there is much of a klan any more and what symbols they use I would not know.

Well, let's just clear up your confusion and ignorance on that point... the KKK is alive and well and the confederate flag is a central symbol - and sorry, but Neonazis do indeed heavily use the confederate flag too...

Your position, thoughts and ideas are based on a *lack* of information and based on *denial*

The evidence to prove you wrong is quite solid and irrefutable.

The age of some of these posters is clearly showing. To them, WWII vets are people they all want dead because they are racist. The only history they care about is from the 60s forward.

True. The poster who said “that is a pile of rocks” is evidence of this.

Yep. Unreal.

Banning a flag does not change the hearts and minds of those who use it as a symbol of racism. It does, however, curtail free speech, and barking down that path is a dangerous endeavor.

It takes a very simple mind to think banning symbols is equivalent to change.

Don't presume to talk about history or about anyone else being ignorant of history if you can't acknowledge all of the CURRENT photos and images in the 7:11 post above. Don't presume to talk about history or anyone else being ignorant of history if you are unwilling to acknowledge that a core driver of the civil war was slavery and that the confederate flag represented the pro-slavery movement 1861-1865, and that it represented the pro-segregation and anti-Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. If you cannot bring yourselves to acknowledge and admit that then you are living in a delusion.

German racists fly the Confederate flag in Germany since the Nazi flag is banned:
