They clearly didn’t think through many critical aspects of this project.

I doubt you or the Twidiot have ever been to an outdoor concert. The airport is likely to call and ask them to turn it down so they can hear themselves in the control tower.

They re-route traffic at LGA for the US Open, which is farther than this is to DCA.

Because the grunting of the players is too loud?

Planes taking off are very loud. 140+ decibels loud.

You think that is going to attract artists?

I suppose I will ask. Do the people in the current shopping plaza have trouble talking to each other with all the plane noise?

Does anyone actually hang out outside there?

There is a kids park directly below the metro, so yes.

Aren't the kids deaf from the 140+ dB plane noise? Seems irresponsible.

No, you don’t hear the planes from the kids park that’s directly there. You do hear the train, and the kids love seeing it. We’ve gone for years.

I can't ever see a scenario where I go to a game there. If you gave me free courtside tickets on a weekend, maybe; otherwise, nothing is worth the headache of getting to and from Potomac Yards from Bethesda/Potomac/CC

Agree 100%. How to piss off a large and long-standing portion of your dedicated fan base! If Ted is leaving DC, then DC Council should start taxing the teams. No reason not to.

This post perfectly exemplifies why businesses want nothing to do with liberal jurisdictions — because you all view taxes as a weapon while hiding under the guise that the reason you are so big on pushing taxes is due to some moral reason.

Ted is focused on corporate box sales. He long ago dropped the rabid (or for that matter even the casual) fans. This is a really smart biz move.

I live in VA and am sad about what is happening to DC. I’ve been in this area for nearly 15 years and chose to live in Arlington b/c my job is here, but I’m right near a metro and enjoy going into DC for restaurants, entertainment, etc.

I had never really felt too unsafe in DC (at least no more than any other city), but lately I’ve found myself not wanting to go there with my young kids. Which sucks because I chose to live close to the city because it is (was? could be again?) a great place. Taking the orange line to metro center is actually way easier for me than driving to Alexandria or switching metro lines plus I like the excuse to switch things up and go to dinner in DC. I honestly don’t understand why DC gov cares more about the rights of criminals than its law abiding residents and business owners? It’s like the latter is just an afterthought now.

Same. We loved being close to the city, and it seemed at one time like many other cities, in terms of safety. But I can’t say that anymore.

Not sure how DC can get any of that going here. We have crime, truancy and a growing segment of the population that will always be dependent on the taxpayer. How did so much progress get lost so quickly?

But at least DC is welcoming, diverse, inclusive and has an urban vibe. The billionaire teams can enjoy their new home in the boring white suburbs.

LOL, sounds like you haven’t been on the other side of the river in 30+ years. NoVA, especially close in, is extremely diverse in every way.

Four of the ten richest counties in the country (including #1 and #2) are in NOVA. I think Ted will be just fine.

Rich counties doesn't mean it is easy to make game time at an inaccessible location.

At least my car will be there when the game is over.

Yup, you will still be on Rt 1 trying to get to the game, when the game is over, you can just make a u-turn and head home, having never made it past Crystal City.

Enjoy your Mystics. Buh-bye.

The Virginia Wizards is certainly a name with no historically bad connotations.

The Caps will be fine. It's a good franchise. What they lose in MoCo and NW DC fans attending games, they'll make up with NoVa fans. I'm in MoCo near the DC line. We go to Caps game all the time. I cannot imagine trekking all the way to Potomac Yards for a weeknight game during rush hour. Not happening. But the Virginia fans will be there.

The Wizards are going to suffer. It's been a losing franchise forever with little hope of changing anytime soon. Most of their fan base - such as it is - is DC based. They are not going to Potomac Yards. You need a winning team for people to go through the inconveinience of going to Potomac Yards. It'll be a pretty empty arena for the foreseeable future when it comes to the Wizards.

The real loser, of course, is DC. This is hundreds of millions in lost revenue. All those restaurants in Gallery Place are going to die. It will be impossible to sell a condo in that neighborhood. It was the arena that turned everything around downtown 30 years ago. It will revert back to the crack era so fast it'll make your head spin. The future for downtown DC is bleak.

I blame Bowser and the City Council, of course. Absolute idiots. But the real villain is the USAO. When you decline to prosecute nearly 70 percent of all arrests, there are consequences. Leonsis said it himself. Most of his employees have been attacked and harassed just going to work. No wants that kind of stress in their day to day life. These are all repeat offenders well known to the police. The average murder suspect in DC has 11 felonies - pretty impressive for a teen or someone in their twenties. And USAO does nothing about these violent people.

So people and businesses are leaving DC. Until DC gets serious about putting criminals in prison, the city will continue to decline.

Downtown DC has died under her watch as she has sat by while residents are overwhelmed by crime that chisels away at our sense of safety and contentment. I worked downtown as well as live in the district and each day at the office and I go outside. I am just shocked by how many businesses are gone, how many empty storefronts. I'm sure residence can count on increased taxes to make up for everything that we're going to be losing in tax income. And this all went down while she flew halfway around the world halfway for a global summit. Her house is on fire. She needed to be here. I loath her.

Her reaction to the death of that Uber driver by those two teenagers spelled it out for me.

They've likely never been on the other side of the river and have probably been here only about 10 years. That post reeks of insufferable relatively recent transplant.

I'm also shocked at how hard it is to get around. It's a vicious cycle.

Is this different to the murder of the Afghan interpreter who drove for Lyft, and was killed by 4 child thugs? I seriously angers me that no one has been arrested in the death of that good man.

lol, those lists are so worthless. It’s all income based. Do you really think Ashburn is one of the richest places in the country. It’s middle management Mecca for people who want a McMansion but can’t afford McLean.
