Airplane noise concerns overblown?

So the flight path will be closer to Georgetown and Palisades, but there will be less need for bad weather procedures. Is that correct?

What does this mean for Georgetown? What is the date the new procedure will begin?

As observed by residents north of DCA, the frequency of flights overhead appears to have increased. The increased flights do no reflect more overall DCA air traffic, but rather the result of decisions by FAA operations to overuse northbound at 65% northbound versus 35% south.

I do wonder what we can do to encourage DCA to fly more southbound. They seem to solely fly northbound on beautiful, clear days like today (admittedly there is some wind).

One good thing i do for myself these days is to get up extremely early and go for long walks. I thank my misophonia for that

Don't blame yourself. What we have here is not normal. We don't all have misophonia and yet we find it unbearable.

The winds are from the north today so flights are northbound. However, many times when winds and from the south typically under 10 mph planes still take off to the north.

Our representatives from Arlington and DC need to speak up at the meetings they attend every three months with the FAA. It was mentioned recently that the Working Group members from Potomac constantly complain about too many south flow operations because they succeeded in moving all departures away from Potomac in 2021 so it is not an issue for them.

Just a reminder....Two years ago the residents of Palisades overwhelmingly rejected a proposal put forward by the DCA Noise Working Group to move the flight path for northbound flights closer to the Palisades i.e. towards the center of the river.

None of this makes sense to a complete novice. Can somebody take their time to write a short summary of all the current changes pertaining to flights landing at DCA? I saw two news reports referring to the success of these changes. Who has determined it is a success? Have they started flying the new route?

The new path, implemented by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), does exactly that, moving incoming planes away from residential areas and centering them more squarely over the river.

Is Mr. Buckley referring to the stormy weather procedure by any chance? It is not mentioned anywhere in this story. You are not going to reduce the noise in DC by moving the flight path over the river and closer to DC.

I typically enjoy WTOP by this was just sloppy reporting.

The change in the procedure. It’s too minor. I agree you need all the facts and cannot imagine how you can stand all the noise and invisible pollution. We left the Palisades.

Don’t buy a house in any neighborhood along, adjacent to, or near the river (Md, DC and Va). If you live in such a neighborhood, move. These neighborhoods have been rendered uninhabitable due to 24/7 noise pollution and the accompanying environmental hazards.

Are you telling residents who bought houses far away from the airport or any flight paths but close to the river 20 years ago to uproot their families and move? Who has suddenly decided that the Potomac River has to become a runway? The members of the DCA noise working group started peddling this theory only recently. It is clear that the information released in all the media outlets is designed to reinforce that theory and further confuse residents. Who is pulling all the strings here?
