DD is interested in attending OOS schools but we are limited financially so we are hoping to offset the additional cost with merit aid.
Anyone know which state schools offer generous merit aid packages for out of state students? |
| pitt, alabama, south carolina, oklahoma. |
| University of South Carolina, University of Alabama, Miami OH. |
| Purdue if she is interested in engineering (and probably a few other OOS engineering schools). |
| Otterbein, Susquehanna, McDaniel, Ursinus, Allegheny |
|
U of Georgia
U of Alabama U of Arizona Kansas University |
| All these. College confidential keeps lists on things like this. |
| Case Western |
Didn't happen for us (merit aid at Purdue) but your situation may vary. DS also got into Ga TEch for aerospace engineering. Also no merit aid. |
| The closest to this area would probably be Pitt and WVU. I'd also look at Alabama, Tennessee, Miami OH, and South Carolina. |
Pitt. If your DD has high stats (top 5%) and 1500+ SATs, she is very likely to get a generous merit package ($20-25k/yr) that would make Pitt less costly than many instate options. Plus Pitt has a guaranteed admission program into their various grad programs. |
It only works for females. |
| Pitt - my dc got full tuition covered and admission to the honors college. We are out-of-state. |
Would your mind sharing your child’s stats? And congrats! |
Not the PP but same full tuition scholarship for my S in VA. Note the scholarship doesn't include room and board but does let the recipient apply for a full Chancellor's scholarship though only 15 are granted. Stats: HS does not rank but likely top 5%, weighted junior yr GPA 3.36 (w/4 APs and senior course load 5 APs and 1 post AP class), 1530 SAT, 800s on Math II and Bio SAT 2s, 4 yr varsity lacrosse (though not recruited for sports). Pitt has rolling admissions beginning in August w/a turnaround time of 3-4 weeks and has a very straight forward application with self reported grades and no need for teacher or counselor recommendations. It is not my S's top choice but nice to get a solid acceptance out of the way in Sept (we were notified of scholarship in early Nov). |
