Another ECNL club ... Will this impact college recruiting? The new two-year age group structure will not negatively impact college recruiting. College coaches evaluate players based on their performance, development, and potential—not the exact age grouping of their club team. https://www.eastsidefc.org/agegroups |
This is correct and why good teams wont roster Aug players playing down They have enough of a pool to choose from to not mess around with the oddballs. The oddballs will find each other at a club that let's them play down. Usually this is the cub desperate to field teams. Everyone will get better and they will get worse compared to players their grade in school. |
False, college coaches explicitly told 3 clubs and Facebook that you do not need to develop with your grade to get recruited for college. And recruiting is push and show interest not waiting to be found. |
Thats not how it worked pre 2017 (before switching to BY) which is why you never heard of players playing down back then. Everyone played on their grade in school team. |
You are assuming the first thing clubs ask about is grade, while they actually are asking about birth date. And you are seeing some clubs provide a voluntary optional form to provide information about a grade. Which tells you that most clubs will be by default based on birthday. So in that case most clubs won't even care about grade to consider whether you're playing up or down based on your grade. |
False, college coaches only said that they will not communicate with players before their Junior year in HS. This is a NCAA recruiting rule. The club you're referring to is planning to play all Aug birthdays with their correct grade in school team. This decision was based on college coachs feedback. Nonsense, because school grades don't factor today. How is it playing down in an age based system when you're playing in your age group? |
Arlington asked all players their grade in school at tryouts this year.. |
Some 5% of players -- an average of 1 team played not in the correct grade last time. |
No coach is taking a mediocre player on their A team for school grade reason in a age system. |
Not on good teams. I never saw it or heard about it. |
Of course they would. It's been part of the ongoing conversation with their families. ... And here's what they said they're going to do: Q: Can a player born between August 1 and September 30 play up if they are in the higher school grade? A: School grade may be considered as part of the evaluation, but the decision to allow a player to play up is ultimately based on technical criteria including the player’s skill, maturity, and readiness for the older age group. Grade alone does not guarantee that a player will play up. https://arlingtonsoccer.com/programs/travel/age-group-transition |
Arlington also owns and runs ECNL who goes by Age? |
And I believe you said you were a parent with a kid on a high-level time, right? So, just because you never noticed meant it never happened? That's rich. Be curious, dude! |
You offer no proof that this how how it worked pre 2017 and the video you tried to provided as proof actually backfired in that it said August off grade was about 5 percent of players, one per team. It is also a boomer mentality to think that things would go back to exactly how things happen a decade ago. Competitive clubs now, like right now, are saying to play on age and best of best play up and grades don't matter and are announcing that playing on age will not negatively affect college recruiting. |
