And did this year teach you that the Republicans are extremist and trying to take down our democracy?

I didn’t click on the PP’s “archived” weblink but so what if it includes CRT. It’s a graduate level framework for thinking about issues and it can inform teachers as they do thir planning. That doesn’t mean kids are being taught CRT. See Milley’s recent testimony to Congress about the value of reading and learning many perspectives.

CRT/education/school closures are going to be the major issues deciding Governor’s race.

“Former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who is seeking the job again after holding it from 2014-2018, has largely ignored the issue, at one point stating that it was a "conspiracy" concocted by Republicans. Meanwhile, Republican Glenn Youngkin has made anti-CRT advocacy a prominent part of his campaign. ”

Earlier this month, McAuliffe was asked what he thought about the uproar surrounding Critical Race Theory in schools across Virginia. His response? Not only is Critical Race Theory a “right wing conspiracy,” it’s….somehow Glenn Youngkin’s fault?

McAuliffe: “That’s another right-wing conspiracy. This is totally made up by Donald Trump and Glenn Youngkin. This is who they are. It’s a conspiracy theory.”

“Someone on Terry McAuliffe’s campaign may want to let him know that the teachers’ unions he has taken $175,000 from are actively pushing for Critical Race Theory to be taught in Virginia schools,” said RGA Spokesperson Maddie Anderson. “McAuliffe’s knee-jerk reaction of blaming every single thing on Glenn Youngkin will not work. The reality is that Critical Race Theory is a Democrat-led effort to indoctrinate children at an early age, and McAuliffe knows it. He would be wise to pay closer attention to the parents across Virginia who are rightfully worried about this issue and looking for a true leader to stand up for their kids, instead of just dismissing their concerns as a conspiracy theory.”

No, but my two DCs were at the Republican counter protest!

Lol. And for reference, I read that the YouTube livestream of yesterday’s event with Biden/McAuliffe had only 500 viewers. Meanwhile, Trump speaking in Arizona right now has 95,000 online watching. I have no idea how many in person…but guessing a lot more than showed up to the Lubber Run Rec Center and Playground venue in Arlington.

It was originally there for "Teachers and Adults." It was a public site. There is a ton of questionable stuff linked there... including the Abolitionist Teaching Network which Psaki said the DOE made a "mistake" and referenced it and they do not endorse the content of the website.

And, if this is what teachers use to do their planning, that is a huge problem.

If it is so acceptable, why did the school make it private?

It's really a dispiriting race, with McAuliffe and Youngkin - both rich white men who live in neighborhoods that are NoVa's most expensive and zoned to the county's least inclusive high school - snipe at each other like middle schoolers on Twitter about personal issues and each other's wealth.

Youngkin's position on social issues concern me that McAuliffe is just so freaking slimy and lacking in integrity. At this point leaning towards Youngkin.

Except from InsideNova article:

“Luke Forbes came from Fairfax to hear Biden speak, saying he needed no prodding to support down-ballot candidates.

"I wanted to get out of the house and I heard Joe Biden was coming," he told InsideNoVa, saying that some young people he knew were somewhat disappointed that McAuliffe was the nominee again, but that they were excited to protect legislative wins the Democrats had secured.

"I think [McAuliffe] is going to have a much easier time if we re-elect the Democratic majority in the General Assembly," Forbes said. "Young people are excited making sure we get stuff done, keeping the legalization of marijuana, making sure we get justice for people who were affected by silly tough-on-crime laws."

OMG….those “silly tough-on-crime laws”. I’m sure he wants to keep marijuana legal in Virginia and Terry is his man.

Another excerpt:

“Several of the Virginians in attendance Friday told InsideNoVa that they were also there primarily to see Joe Biden.” Interesting. I wonder if they would have shown up if Biden wasn’t the main act.

You heard wrong. I was there and it was packed. Closer to 3000 than 500.

Yes, my sentiments exactly. It’s not that we want to vote for Youngkin, it’s that the other choice is worse.
