I think it is doubtful that FCPS will release a list. I'd be interested to see how much the NAACP has chipped in. My guess is that their contribution is the largest--and it is not likely that large. I do think that those SB members have probably pitched in--but, my guess is not much. If it were much, the pot would be larger. |

I doubt seriously that this will work. To me, the really interesting thing is the link on this site to a FOIA'd document of an email from Pat Hynes to Moon. (Click on the "School Board Strategy" link.) She said that the Dems need to support this name change because it reflects their values and the NAACP is one of their most important constituencies--and the NAACP really wants this. So much for non-partisanship. This recall will not help, but it just illustrates more of how little our SB cares about the community as a whole. |
What is so troubling about recognizing the NAACP as an "important constituency"? It doesn't mean they are the only constituency. It really does hurt your old, white butt when others are listened to for a change, doesn't it? |
The petition is just a waste of time. Charges are baseless. Save it for the next election cycle in 2019.
The group that is behind the petition is some partisan citizen's group. |
Fairfax County should do a special tax district to cover the cost. Area=any real estate that was ever in the sending area. |
Nope. It's a county-wide expense. |
Donations Submitted as of 11/28/17: $15,250.00
Thank you for your donations! $22.96 since 11/22/17 The money is rolling in......... |
So damn funny. Butt hurt libtards with zero forethought. |
No, it is not funny. Divided the community and giving the bill to the taxpayer. |
This is a damn shame. Sandy Evans should be ashamed. Pat Hynes should be ashamed. This is going to fester for years. |
Should have been dealt with years ago. It's the price you pay for having racist a-holes in your community. |
Most of the people who complain about the cost already want to starve the public schools and underfund them. Better to send the different message that both schools and school names matter. |
That's a pretty big assumption that shows how little you understand about education and the poor pay for teachers. Spending a million dollars to change a school name--with the likelihood of spending more on this in the future --is going to discourage taxpayers from wanting to give the schools more money for the things the schools could really use. What a waste. |
You might want to check the huge margin by which Karen Keys-Gamarra defeated her name change opponent in the special School Board election (triggered by the Republicans) for the at-large seat. |
Yes, and they haven't all disappeared, judging from the handful of grumpy old people trying to get signatures for their petition to recall Sandy Evans. All the talk about "process" is a smoke screen for old-fashioned racism. |
