No, this is just a subset of the proposals. These are among those most aligned with the One Fairfax principles. |
do you have a link to the actual contenders? I can't vote for it, but I'd like to know what the possibilities are since it is a costly change.... which I support... but not if they are going to make it worse ![]() |
Thank you. He was a horrible traitor to this country as are all Civil War so called 'heroes'. |
I like Seven Corners and Peace Valley.
If they go with Peace Valley, it would be fun for the Sports teams to be the "Peaceniks"! |
Full list - people can vote on every name that FCPS decided was not lewd/obscene - can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/renaming/communitynames |
Not a lot to work with here...
https://www.fcps.edu/renaming/communitynames Skyline, Challenger (although it blew up), Seven Corners, Peace Valley, Liberty, Merit, Skyview Heights, Crossroads (although there is a 1/2 way house in Ffx Cnty by this name, I think). |
There is concern among students it would end up Peace Valley Penguins. I like the idea of "Trailblazers" for a school named after Barbara Rose Johns or Justice Marshall. A Mendez HS could be the "Mendez Liberators" or "Mendez Red Devils," since his troop of WWII paratroopers were called the "Red Devils" and liberated a village from Nazi occupation. |
What about George bush or Ronald Reagan |
Schoolie mcschoolface
|
For some reason, that name isn't one of the choices... |
It is. It's just not one of the choices that FCPS will pay attention to. |
There is already a Liberty Middle School. I would not vote for that--if I had a vote. And, you have a point about Crossroads (which I had thought was a good choice). |
from the FCPS website - the full list of names is here as well: https://www.fcps.edu/renaming
Saturday, September 16, 2017, J.E.B. Stuart High School Cafeteria – VOTING – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voting is limited to residents of the J.E.B. Stuart High School attendance area as per Regulation 8170.7. Voting is open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Voters will need to check in and provide identification to verify they are current residents of the attendance area. Similar to what is accepted when registering a student for school, FCPS will accept Virginia driver’s license, utility bill, payroll stub, official correspondence, lease, or student ID for students as proof of residence for voting. Only one person per household in the attendance area is permitted to vote. Voters will be allowed one vote for the first choice name, one vote for the second choice name, and one vote for the third choice name from the list solicited at the September 9 meeting. Detailed and translated directions will be provided to all voters. A weighted point system will be used to determine the top three choices. First choice will be awarded three points, second choice two points, and third choice one point. Results will not be communicated to the public on September 16, but will be made public prior to the Superintendent’s recommendation to the School Board. Dr. Brabrand will use the results of the voting to make a recommendation consisting of one or more of the most popular choices to the School Board for consideration and action. |
Why Penguins? Are there a lot of people from Pittsburgh in the area? |
From a recent court filing by FCPS:
"The second event is scheduled for Saturday,September 16, at which time a non-binding community vote will take place to identify the public's top choices for renaming Stuart H.S. Thereafter, the Superintendent will consider the public’s choices in making a non-binding recommendation of potential names to the School Board." They are pretty emphatic that, at the end of the day, the School Board will decide on the new name. |
