All of my kids - sons and daughters - think that the red states are sh1t holes. They actually are so disgusted by all of this GOP insanity that they want to move abroad.

Any intelligent, decent human would stay far away from the GOP/red states.

+2. This is true. My kids are the same.

We feel the same way. It makes me worried that it might be even harder to get into college in the blue states.

I wonder how many kids from red states will be looking to escape the insanity and only apply to schools in blue states.

Probably not that many. I don't think you have college aged kids, because ability to have an abortion is not exactly high on the list of a teenaged girl's wish list to pick a college. If she is privileged enough to go to an out of state college, if she thinks about it at all, she is probably thinking she will just go to where one is available if need be.

It’s not “the ability to have an abortion”, it’s how states fundamentally treat women. And other GOP insanity - attacks on LGBTQ, etc.

My early HS kids (son & daughter) are very vocal about their opinion of red states. If they were living in a red state I’m sure they’d be pushing to get TF out of the state for college. We are in VA and are already exploring options to move our family and business if the VA GOP attacks women.

I’m sure there are kids in red states who are disgusted by the GOP’s treatment of women (and other insanity) and want to leave.

*People generally flee oppressive states/countries*.

Look at current demographic shifts in the US with this in mind.

How long ago did the religious extremists on SCOTUS kill RvW?

<2 weeks?

Europe has more restrictive abortion laws than New York and Washington DC. Are you going to forgo going there because they don’t allow getting unfettered abortions in the third trimester?

Personally, I’m refusing to go to states that don’t allow partial birth abortions.

Meh. Europe is still 1000x better than sh-thole red states that treat corpses better than women.

Rather than cut off all ties with the south, let’s try to figure out how we got here so we can then determine how to get things back on track.

Did your list include Virginia? The guy you elected already said he wants to take action, op. Or, are you only targeting “those Deep South” states dcum likes to criticize as backwards? I think your faux purple VA is just like the others on your list. So, shall we write off VA and aaaaaaalllllll those VA based corporations? Are you ready to bail on Amazon?

Not op, but I sure am.
Also, applications hardly reflect yesterday’s decision. And kids can continue to attend schools in these states - it’ll just be a lot more dangerous for the women. But, I support choice even if I disagree with the choice someone makes.

Literally 5% of the population lists abortion as their biggest issue that they’re voting on in the mid terms. This thread, and the posters on here, are way more focused on this issue than the majority of the population. This is becoming a boutique issue for upper middle class white women.

Voters are dumb AF. Wait until these draconian laws affect them personally.

More people are moving to red states than blue states, Latinos (a demo that who is overwhelmingly Catholic) give Biden lower approval ratings than whites, and the biggest rising star in the Republican Party is a Latina woman who flipped a border district in Texas red. Dems insistence on catering to social issues like LGBTQ and abortion that are largely supported by UMC urban whites but not a priority for Latinos in general is going to further this shift by Latinos to the right and Dems are going to go from being the party of the working class to the party of UMC white people and woke college kids, who are also mostly white. That’s not a winning coalition in a country that’s becoming increasingly brown and where the majority doesn’t go to college.

The ironic thing is that all these undocumented immigrants coming over are actually going to move this country right going forward.

I have been predicting this for almost two decades and I normally vote Dem. Courting that vote was the biggest mistake ever on the part of the Democrats. Very socially conservative and religious cultures and fairly racist attitudes towards people who are darker skinned than they are, probably because of the way the social hierarchies work in those countries.

The economy affects everyone. Abortion, not so much. Dems would have a better case if they weren’t aligning themselves with people who advocate for abortions up until birth for whatever reason given. In the age of high resolution ultrasounds that kind of stuff is not supported by more than 70 percent of the population and is banned in most countries and states because people think it is barbaric outside of exceptions for the the mother’s health. Dems need to stop aligning themselves with the far left fringe on social issues like this. It is not a winning model. Take Hillary’s advice and stick to “safe, legal, and rare” and don’t give any traction to the people who want to celebrate their abortions.

Exactly. But privileging tolerance over every other virtue means that Dems had no problem letting far right social conservatives come over in droves. You think the average white guy isn’t an ally on abortion rights or LGBTQ issues. Talk to a working class Latino, Indian STEM worker, or a middle class Muslim man about these issues. It’s a shame how many of these UMC white women on this forum live in a bubble and are oblivious to how out of touch their social views are compared to the diverse population they claim to be championing.

Red herring. 3rd trimester abortions are very rare and for very sad reasons.

Banning abortion will ultimately impact economy as well. You’ll drive more families into poverty. Decrease education rate. Increase crime rates. Etc.

We all lose.

Well if you want your daughters to be second class citizens, then sure, it's fantastic.

We just have different views of things. It’s not second class. You sound nasty. Go do your twerking with your nearby abortion parlors and lay off people who live different from you.

Have as many kids as you want. More power to you. Stay out of my sons and daughters reproductive business.

You sound clueless. You are not going to force people to give birth without a mother of a fight. Insufferable would be a mild description of the gravity if forcing births on people

My daughter wants to be a Veternarian. She was accepted to Texas A&M, one of the premiere vet schools in the country. She is not dropping her choice of schools.

They may care, but I doubt they rearrange their lives over politics.
