1. Masks are most effective as stopping the spread of Covid from the mask wearer to others.

2. They are less effective at preventing the wearer from being infected with Covid.

3. Your child is being asked to wear a mask to protect others around them, including classmates, teachers, and school administrators, any of whom could infect a high-risk person outside of the school.

4. You can't look at someone and know if they are at high risk from Covid. Most people have no idea how many seemingly healthy people actually suffer from COPD, heart disease, chronic renal disease, diabetes (including type 1 diabetic children), hypertension, and cancer.

5. There is no reason why a healthy child, even one with asthma, should find it hard to breathe while wearing a mask, such as an N95 or KN95. If your child complains of difficulty breathing in a mask, get them medical attention promptly.

6. Cloth masks are very ineffective at preventing the spread of the prevalent strains of Covid.

Thanks for reading. Stay safe.

No one cares what you think, "surgical first assistant". Your opinion on my healthy normal child's comfort in any kind of mask is way out of your lane. You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

I agree.

He is connected to fcps from the elementary through high school level.

He is definitely speaking for a significant portion of his constituents.

He is speaking for a significant portion of his constituents, both democrat and republican. People are afraid to speak out and we need good leadership on this issue. No one else is leading.

Pulling a political stunt like this isn't "leading". It's crap and doesn't serve any of his constituents well.

What about the constituents who agree with him?

Guess they are too dumb to understand that this is crap legislation. Even if you don’t want masks this isn’t the way to do it.

You aren't from around here, are you?

Chap is showing leadership for his constituents. Many of those left of center are terrified to speak out for fear of being branded trumlers.

Unfortunately, I have lived in this sh1thole for the last 20 years.

He’s pushing crap legislation. Even if you don’t want masks this is a terrible way to do it.

He’s doing it for himself to spin up some press.

“Dr. Jha does not believe that his own children have been seriously harmed from masking, and does not believe that the pandemic is over.

But he wants to unmask soon, he says, in part to offer some social and academic normalcy, given that he thinks future coronavirus surges in the United States are likely to require masking again — potentially in the South over the summer and in the North this fall and next winter.”

So everyone needs to follow this Dr. Jha's opinion?

Thank goodness Chap is willing to show leadership and act in a bipartisan manner, releasing our kids from those who have been using them as political pawns for 2 years.

Utilizing safety precautions during a deadly pandemic is not political. At least it wasn't until Trump & the GOP made it political.

This X 1 million. God, people are so ignorant.

So dumb.

Maybe it’s the worst thing if the next strain wiped out humanity.

What is the right way to do it? By some accounts, he tried to engage with Brabrand and the school board and was rebuffed. And the latest from FCPS is a knee-jerk reaction to the pending legislation with arguably flawed metrics for the reduction in mitigation measures. Whether Youngkin's EO was an over-reach or not, it was action. Maybe ill advised. But action. As was Petersen's letter and legislation. And, lets be honest with everyone here, FCPS is also throwing a tantrum with the lawsuit, their prior town hall, and actions up to this point.

Come up with a plan using metrics or guidelines. Don’t remove ability to revert to masks.

The lawsuit is a legit dispute. The EO was illegal and overstepped Youngkin’s authority.

Look at how other states have done it. They simply removed statewide mandates. They didn’t tell parents they can ignore school rules. WTH was that?

Can we chill with the "you made it political" assertions? Both sides made it political! Trump is and was a horrible person. There is no question about that. But will you give him credit for Operation Warp Speed that accelerated the development and subsequent approval of the vaccines that have served as absolutely the best mitigator we have against COVID right now? They aren't perfect, but they are better than nothing. Could his administration handled the initial stages of the pandemic better? Absolutely. Could FCPS handled the initial stages of the pandemic better? Absolutely. Could the Democratic party run a better campaign for governor that would have yielded a different result? Most definitely. The constant attack ads drove me nuts. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm not red. I'm not blue. I try to think for myself and make informed decisions. Try it. You might like it.
