Chap Petersen mask letter from 2/8 to FCPS

Protests were bad when people wanted the right to reopen their businesses. It was a deadly pandemic after all and they should be in the house watching Netflix and eating Doritos instead of congregating and yelling and spreading Covid.

A few weeks later protests were good, never mind that this time small business had their windows smashed in, a few Target stores were looted and a precinct of two set on fire. The pandemic was deadly and all, but this time it was okay to exercise free speech and yell and scream and spread Covid.

+1 hypocrisy at its finest.

“Dr. Jha does not believe that his own children have been seriously harmed from masking, and does not believe that the pandemic is over.

But he wants to unmask soon, he says, in part to offer some social and academic normalcy, given that he thinks future coronavirus surges in the United States are likely to require masking again — potentially in the South over the summer and in the North this fall and next winter.”

So everyone needs to follow this Dr. Jha's opinion?

Thank goodness Chap is willing to show leadership and act in a bipartisan manner, releasing our kids from those who have been using them as political pawns for 2 years.

Utilizing safety precautions during a deadly pandemic is not political. At least it wasn't until Trump & the GOP made it political.

This X 1 million. God, people are so ignorant.

So dumb.

Maybe it’s the worst thing if the next strain wiped out humanity.

Can we chill with the "you made it political" assertions? Both sides made it political! Trump is and was a horrible person. There is no question about that. But will you give him credit for Operation Warp Speed that accelerated the development and subsequent approval of the vaccines that have served as absolutely the best mitigator we have against COVID right now? They aren't perfect, but they are better than nothing. Could his administration handled the initial stages of the pandemic better? Absolutely. Could FCPS handled the initial stages of the pandemic better? Absolutely. Could the Democratic party run a better campaign for governor that would have yielded a different result? Most definitely. The constant attack ads drove me nuts. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm not red. I'm not blue. I try to think for myself and make informed decisions. Try it. You might like it.

Truth hurts. We all saw how it went down.

It only became political because Trump made it political. He lied and pushed misinformation for political purposes.

If he had been honest and governed fairly we wouldn’t be in this huge mess.

Ok, here we go now. It is the bad orange man’s fault that you have been a donkey this past year. Trump made me do it, it is his fault. You folks are too much. Is this the narrative defense now?

Sheesh. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. Absolutely pathetic. Keep spinning toppy. Dog ate your homework too I bet. He is not the reason why you have been a donkey. It is because for the past year you have been a donkey. Again…pathetic. If this is the new defense for your irrationality you are doomed. Didn’t work when electing Younkin, and won’t excuse your behavior now. HA. Keep trying though.

I haven't politicized anything pandemic related. I have criticized and supported both D and R pandemic response. I'm sure some Ds politicized - but it's primarily in response to Trump and the MAGAs.

Who does that? Who politicizes a deadly global pandemic? Trump had the chance to come out a hero and he blew it every.single.day. An incredible dereliction of duty.

What are you talking about?

The left politicized the pandemic and vaccines from day 1, and still is today.

Don't be such a partisan to think these issues all land in the lap of one person, while claiming your side was completely virtuous.

Bullshit. Not in any way comparable to how Trump and his idiotic followers have.

I agree.

He is connected to fcps from the elementary through high school level.

He is definitely speaking for a significant portion of his constituents.

He is speaking for a significant portion of his constituents, both democrat and republican. People are afraid to speak out and we need good leadership on this issue. No one else is leading.

Pulling a political stunt like this isn't "leading". It's crap and doesn't serve any of his constituents well.

What about the constituents who agree with him?

Guess they are too dumb to understand that this is crap legislation. Even if you don’t want masks this isn’t the way to do it.

What is the way?

Come up with a plan using metrics or guidelines. Don’t remove ability to revert to masks.

So we gave the Virginia dems and the far left school board almost 2 full years to come up with "a plan using metrics or guidance"

They failed.

They didn't even try.

Every single move they have done has been political and ineffective.

We are done.

They had their chance. They had barrels of money thrown at them. They were given patience, time, and as Braebrand likes to say "grace"

Not once over these past two years have they come up with a single plan based off "metrics and guidance."

Instead, they took out their anger on special ed kids when they were forced to return kids to school. They spent all their time on TJ and renaming schools. They played wordle on their phones as their constituents, parents and children alike pleaded with them to come up with a plan using "metrics or guidance."

We are done.

They are done.

Now it is time for people of action.

Now it is time to listen to the moderates, the centrist dems, the parents, the science and gasp, the conservatives.

Youngkin and Peterson are finally, finally, after two long years of incompetence and politics, putting kids first.

Bravo to them.

Is the double spacing between sentences supposed to indicate momentous pauses? I think you overused that strategy. Also, you included too many rabble-rousing cliches like “We are done” or “Now it is time for people of action.”

🤮

Sorry, that’s my involuntary reaction to pompous and terrible writing that shows no awareness of how truly terrible it is.

Bullshit to you. Trump wanted to halt travel from China and was called a xenophobe by the left and the media. Fauci told us masks didn't work and then changed his tune. Trump mentioned possible quarantines and Gov. Cuomo said he was acting like a dictator and the states manage their own affairs. Trump sent hospital ships and had the Army build field hospitals that went almost completely unused in New York and California. Trump pursued Warp Speed to get vaccines faster than ever before and had Kamala Harris and others saying they wouldn't trust such a vaccine. Pfizer delayed announcement of the success of the vaccine trials until the day after the election to avoid making Trump look good. So FU you crazy wokie.
