Advanced Academic Programs (AAP)
West Potomac isn't predominantly white. But there's space at Mount Vernon and it's borderline criminal to expand West Potomac to 3000 seats when MV is close by and they leave other schools overcrowded with no plan. We have no way to remove Platenberg, as much as he should have been fired years ago. But we can replace the School Board members, who never challenge him or try and rectify his mistakes. |
Cut out your cr@p. Your scaremongering and ideological drivel is pathetic. Even truly liberal countries (Denmark, Sweden) are done with mask mandates. So no, despite your reprehensible wish that people in the Asian community die (Or DIE like you emphasize) - nobody will die. |
It's disgusting. |
Aunty is going to get Covid no matter how long kids are in masks. You can certainly keep your children home from school if you are that concerned. |
Lol. A coup. You watch too much MSNBC. |
Not to mention it’s all predicated on the notion that local officials will always toe a political party line, even when they hold positions that by law are intended to be non-partisan. Granted, local Democrats on the SB and BOS have behaved in a manner that lends itself to that presumption, but at this moment in time I think more Republicans and Independents in local government are absolutely critical to elicit honest debate and a wider range of viewpoints. The total domination of county government by Democrats, especially at the School Board level, has been an unmitigated disaster. |
Lifelong (if you can call me that.. Been in this country 30 years and voting for 15) Democrat here. What bothers me with the Dems is that, the minute they get into power, they seem to throw balance to the winds and engage in extreme lefty behavior (I consider free soup for everyone, open borders as examples of that behavior). I did not vote for Youngkin knowing fully well that he was a Trumpta*d. Unfortunately, we as voters need to engineer that belance. If that means voting for a Democrat president but Republican congressman for instance, then we should do so. I was going to vote for a Republican leaning school board on the assumption that the state government will remain democrat. That did not happen so need to rethink what I want to do for the school board race when it happens. |

It's weird to me that the single issue that you would vote on, the hill that you would die on, is admission to TJ when the Republican Party as currently constituted is threatening to become an authoritarian anti-democracy party. They LITERALLY attempted a coup thirteen months ago in order to subjugate the will of the voters. +1000 This cut throat “My kid has to go to Harvard or else” attitude that some recently immigrating Asian parents have us exactly why the recent TJ reforms happened. These same parents are happy to literally sink the US democracy if they don’t get their kid into a top collage. That nuts! I personally think a different way of doing iTJ reforms would have been better, but I see why the parents of many African-American, Hispanic, Latin, and disabled children are fed up with their equally intelligent children getting pushed out by the same Asian parents saying racist things like “Asians are the smartest it’s a scientific fact!”. Having a hyper aggressive parents who are willing to cheat from the time their kids are in elementary school is unfair. That doesn’t make their kids more intelligent. |
They are basically wannabe white conservatives. |
Working hard equals cheating now? |
|
This is the mindset that is pushing Asians away from your "minority club". I've see a thousand variations of this sentiment all over this board - thinly veiled racism with a justification - and y'all expect us to toe the line and "be good minority, vote for who we ask you to, and wait your turn in a corner". Fu*k that! We got news for you. At least in Fairfax county, our votes matter. Act like it and earn it.. and don't give us BS about how "we are losing democracy". We know how to think, and more often than not, waaaay better than you! |
This is the reason why you see Asians getting into bed with white supremacists. Asking a question like "Working hard equals cheating now?" presumes that you have the market cornered on hard work and that you are the only race who cares about education. There is a tremendous sense of entitlement about a community that believes that their approach to education is the only legitimate one and should grant them unfettered access to all elite institutions irrespective of what's in the best interest of those institutions. "Wait, are you saying it's not in TJ or Yale or Harvard's best interests to be predominantly Asian?" YES! That is exactly what I am saying! And it wasn't in their best interests to be predominantly white either when they were. Legitimate diversity across a spectrum of ethnic, socioeconomic, and experiential backgrounds leads to stronger educational outcomes and a FAR more socially conscious student body ready to succeed in a changing global marketplace. |

Every single academic competition or metric has Asians overrepresented at the top. If work ethic and talent are supposedly equally distributed among all races and SES, why are the Asians so dominant in all things academic?
Note that the answer can't be "privilege." Asians as a whole are not more privileged than white people, yet Asians dominate whites in all academic contests and domains. (I'm white, FWTW) |
You exemplify the attitude that is driving away Asians from the Democrats. You expect us to be outraged by issues that outrage you and you totally dismiss issues that matter to Asians. Again, these issues may not be justified but enough people see these as issues - these should at least be acknowledged and discussed. Not only do the Democrats not acknowledge Asian issues - they equate Asians with White Supremacists (see above). As an Asian, when I see this attitude, I am inclined to exhibit the proverbial middle finger to the Democrats. As an immigrant, I naturally veer towards the Democratic Party (are they not called the "big tent party" ha ha). But the Democrats are showing themselves as a party of partisans with a Holy Book of issues. If you don't subscribe to the beliefs in the Holy Book (and nothing but the beliefs laid out in the Holy Book) then there is no room for you. Well, there is another party that has room. TJ may have been a mess (it was) and Asians have not distinguished themselves in arguing their point of view. But the Democrats and their leadership - they are just pushing us out. |
