Caught with alcohol in dorm

In Virginia, has anyone had recent experience with this? Police were called and kid received citation.
Do they automatically lose driver's license for a period of time?
Consequences at school too.
My level of disappointment is indescribable.

The school told us "police". We assumed real police but I'm not sure. On has not shared his side with us yet.

OP, not to minimize things but very likely almost all of those kids in the dorms have alcohol in their rooms.

Did your child do something above and beyond to draw attention to himself?

Why would you lose your driver's license for that? Is that a VA thing? Unfortunately I have no recent experience, but this happened all the time when I was in college at Georgetown and generally it was just a matter of school discipline. I can't imagine why on earth it would be necessary to call the cops. That said, my now-DH was also caught buying underage in college by actual cops, and he got a citation and had to pay a fine as I recall. He didn't lose his license. But again, this was in the 2000s in DC so not super relevant.

While I do not condone illegal drinking, law is law, I really wish that with the super rightist President, finally some common sense will prevail and drinking age will become 18. (If nothing else positive will ever happen...)It truly boggles my mind that you can vote, own a gun, go fight in the military, but can't have a beer. IMO, this is exactly what is causing students to drink.

We got caught with beers and more in our dorm rooms in a VA state school in the early 2000s and just got written up and had to take a CD test. That was the first time...not sure about subsequent times.

Police seems like overkill.

if you can go to war and DIE, I think you should be able to drive a car and to drink (not at the same time, obviously).

If you raise the driving age to 22, then the enlistment age needs to go up as well.
