Councilman Gray down on Safeway: Does he know the owners are Trump affiliated arms manufacturers?

Council member Gray conducted a surprise inspection of Safeway in Northeast. He was disappointed by what he found.

I am shocked at what I have found.

1/Safeway Inc. is owned by Cerberus Capital Management a New York based Private Equity firm run by Stephen Feinberg.

2/ Cerberus – named after the mythical three headed hound of Hades – also owns Remington Arms – which manufactures an AR-15 style assault rifle described by Rolling Stone Magazine as the “Mass Shooter’s Weapon of Choice.” A Remington AR-15 style gun was used by the Sandy Hook shooter who killed 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members at an elementary school in Newtown, CT in December 2012.

3/ Safeway owner Stephen Feinberg – identified as a “Trump Advisor” and a “Trump Confidant” – is providing advice to the Trump administration on the privatization of the war in Afghanistan. Conveniently, Cerberus Capital also owns a major military contactor, DynCorp, which has provided security and police training services in Afghanistan.

Thanks! Will shop exclusively at Safeway from now on.

Safeway has crappy produce anyway.

Gray should move to shut all Safeway's in the District down, replacing them by local Korean owned corner stores. Help the little guy.

Good old guilt by association.

No, it's guilt via war-profiteering and fear mongering. Just because a war profiteer wants to diversify his portfolio by buying a grocery chain doesn't mean we need to shop there.

Urban communities need to vote with their dollars and their best interests at heart. Rural interests don't care that we in cities must necessarily work together; we can't be "rugged individuals." Cities do better when you get guns off the streets; rural communities and gun capitalists don't care about our needs.

And I would LOVE to take a look through Trump's tax files.

Meh. Safeway is a union shop and often is the only grocery store in some of these neighborhoods. I need to pick my battles and this isn't one of them.

Maybe it would be more effective to get the people using the guns off the street? Perhaps it's not the tool that the criminals use so much as the criminals themselves but that's just crazy talk right?

I will agree that as someone who doesn't live in that area and would not travel or do business in that area I should have no say in how it's ran. but for some reason I find it hard to have sympathy for a group of people who keep voting the same caliber of people into office and expecting something to change.

Safeway is a crappy store. Who shops there?

I'm getting a Safeway banner ad with this thread. Funny.

The one in Capitol Hill is commonly referred to as the "Unsafeway".

it would be awesome if Safeway sold guns. I'd shop there exclusively. Anyway, I fully support any business owned by Cerebus Capital. They have a proud tradition of supporting Constitutional rights.

Should Safeway and Giant close their stores on Alabama Ave SE? Are you people bbanding together and opening a replacement for each?
