Doesn’t look like omicron is going to spread widely in the US, which has a much higher vaccination rate than SA. It is unlikely that omicron will reach our schools. It also seems that omicron is not as bad as initially thought.

You're just a troll, but on the outside chance you're not, this is what people said for Delta.

Omicron will be the dominant variant here in 3 months. Get your booster.

It's more transmissible than Delta and infects people who had previous infections. Doesn't look more virulent for now, but just the first two characteristics I mentioned make it a problem from a hospital capacity perspective.

No one wants closures, but Hogan will be forced into restrictions if hospitals are saturated.

The rate of growth is truly staggering.

And with reinfections so high, I worry for all the kids that got Covid during Delta getting a second round right away.

Why? What if they do? Odds are extremely high they’ll be just fine a second time as well.

Of course most kids would be fine. But we are obliged to protect the small number of kids who would be seriously ill.

How? What’s your plan that doesn’t involve locking down?

Just fine is an overstatement. We know that repeat infections can increase severity. We should try to avoid this.

My concern is that only 30% of American parents are planning to in this initial round. Many who aren't think that natural immunity confers protection and won't be following the news on this variant as closely. There is no doubt that many kids will get exposed again.

Omicron has now been found in Maryland.

Parents, get your boosters, and get your kids vaccinated.

Yes, parents should get their kids vaccinated. Of course. And themselves, too.

It has. It is closer to us than you think.

Mandatory vaccination and masking, outdoor classes and lunch whenever weather permits, social distancing as much as possible. Yes, lockdown when these mitigation measures aren’t working for stalling omicron or the next variant.
