| The fact that some gymnasts don’t like her think she is arogant doesn’t bother me. It’s lonely at the top. She did what she needed to do for herself and stayed to cheer her team. What bothers me the most is the media spin and Monday morning quarterbacks. Also The Hmong American gymnast has beaten her. The media barely mentions her, I think it would be awesome to see an Asian American win the all around gold! |
I don’t see it as braggart I see it is confident using a term that is 100% correct. If she said she was the best basketball player you would have a point… girl sit down. But she is actually the goat so it’s not arrogant it’s accurate, |
There’s no way to measure “the greatest”. If the international gymnastics body designates her the “goat”, fine. Otherwise, it’s meaningless. She’s an incredible athlete and has given so much to the sport. That’s enough. |
I feel as though NBC wanted Jordan Chiles to be the star, not Suni. Unbelievably, the NBC Tokyo Olympics Twitter account Tweeted "Who's ready for some Jordan Chiles magic?" on Sunday night to promote its coverage in prime time. This tweet came after Jordan had fallen on two events that NBC didn't show it its prime time coverage and had a pretty abysmal day. |
Well, thinking of herself as the greatest didn’t seem to help when it counted, did it? Maybe sports psychologists should start recommending a different approach. |
Interesting that her team totally disagrees with your niece and said they did it for her. Doesn't sound like the response of bitter teammates whatsoever. Your niece sounds like a dog whistler. This doesn't look selfish to me at all and she didn't rush despite being up on beam next herself: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/olympics/simone-biles-jordan-chiles-video-b1890382.html |
Well I don’t blame it on the sport psychologist.., her trauma therapist probably needed to do more EMDR to get the image of Nasar’s hand all the way up her pre-pubescent girl parts out of her mind. |
Probably Jade Carey. She's taking the spot Biles gave up in the AA competition, which she qualified for but was the third ranked American and they only permit two per country. She's a vault and floor specialist. Having her in the team final may very well may have gotten the US team the gold, as those were two weaker events for the US without Biles. |
Just to be clear how good she is, in qualifiers she got second in vault and third in floor overall. She does a floor tumbling pass that is the hardest ever done by a woman, including harder than what Biles can do. |
| If it's the loss of spatial awareness, then it sounds like more of a neurological issue, not a mental health one. |
DP - but I don’t think you understand what racism is. You are embarrassing yourself, truly. Love, Karen |
She did not take Jades team spot. Jade earned a spot as an individual competitor, and elected to use that spot instead of being considered for a team spot. Performance suggest Le that jade would have been stronger on the team than Grace McCallum, arguably better than Jordan chiles overall, but she opted out of team consideration. This was made clear at the trials. |
| Sad thing is she just created another entire revenue stream with the speech she can now give to conventions. She'll get about $150K for the first couple of years before she loses marketability. |
Suni Lee was great yesterday! Annoyed with Biles that she took a spot away from another gymnast. |
NP - It could well be either I think. I experienced that dizzying disorientation mid-air during practices several times in a sport in which I was competing internationally (though not Olympic level). It leaves you shaken - mentally, physically - and doubting your ability a bit, since if you don’t know how to orient your body in the air, you can’t complete these complex flips and twists. And like previous posters have said, that can lead to bodily harm given the level of difficulty at which these gymnasts operate. It’s a pretty sickening feeling to be flying through the air high up, unsure which way you’re going or how you’ll land. Getting that disoriented can definitely happen in my experience from being really nervous (like trying a difficult new skill you’re unfamiliar with) or mentally off your game. All that to say - whether it’s mental health or neurological, in either case I absolutely can’t fault her for making the wise decision she did. And despite me chiming in here online, I hope SB can tune out the proliferation of ideas going around and focus on what she knows to be right for herself. |
