s/o Most Beautiful College Campuses

Doesn’t count. It’s not a real college. Plus, it’s ugly.

It must be because UVA is one of the most unattractive campuses I’ve ever seen. I just don’t get the love for that one. Good school, but definitely not a beautiful campus.

And yet a world UNESCO site and no 1 most beautiful by a number of rankings services.

Vanderbilt was such a huge disappointment. We just visited and it had been hyped up so much. It basically looks like an overgrown megachurch campus, with bland surroundings. Such a letdown because it looks great in photographs. Even with the new classical Gothic constructions it just was not cohesive at all.

I've been to several schools on this list that are pretty, but two that should be added to this list are the College of Charleston and Rollins College. They are both gorgeous!

I really wonder if these people have been to many universities. DH went to Yale and I also thought New Haven and the Yale campus was a pretty awful place.

Architecturally, Yale is extraordinary and it is also beautiful. I'd say the best of the Ivy schools along with Princeton.

Within the Ivy League, I'd say

#1 - Yale/Princeton
#3 - Dartmouth
#4 - Cornell
#5 - Columbia
#6 - Harvard
#7 - Brown
#8 - Penn

There is a bit of a gap between 1-4 and 5-8.

I would put Harvard above Columbia and Cornell for sure.

Harvard never quite comes together:

Yale/Princeton
Dartmouth
Cornell
Harvard/Brown
Columbia
Penn

UVA is not unattractive as the PP said, but certainly not one of the most beautiful I have seen either.

No, it’s not. It looks like an upscale residential neighborhood, with one giant mansion at its center. Little about it suggests it’s an institution of higher learning.

Agree, I don’t think it compares to the beauty of campuses like W&M, Princeton, West Point or Cornell in any way.

Have either of you been to Salve Regina? It is NOT in "an upscale residential neighborhood with one giant mansion at its center." In fact it is one of many giant mansions along the cliff walk in Newport, RI. Have you ever heard of the Newport mansions? Educate yourself before you start spewing misinformation.

Totally agree. If you have not seen Salve, you cannot imagine how gorgeous it is. Like Pepperdine but sail boats and mansions. It is stunning. Obviously it isn’t in a league academically with some other mentioned but has to be top 5 in beautiful campuses.

I’ve seen it and can’t agree. The cliff walk is gorgeous - but that’s not the campus.

For appeal of the architecture, maybe. But for overall beauty of the architecture + surroundings, Cornell for sure.

Why are you assuming we haven’t been there just because we don’t think it ranks with those other colleges? People can disagree.

University of Nevada - Reno.

I was there for a work thing, and just could not get over how beautiful the campus was. It probably helped that my conference was in a casino that was just horrible, so getting outside to walk around the gorgeous campus felt doubly wonderful.

Based solely on architecture, Cornell would be lower.

Most beautiful school I’ve only seen in pictures: Scripps

Scripps’ landscaping, its gardens, ivy-covered buildings, and architecture and the mountains in the background does make the campus idyllic and beautiful. So is Pomona. But all the Claremont campuses are quite small. Not the longest stroll.

Is this University of Southern California or South Carolina? I'm from the West Coast and we think California when we hear USC (which I agree has a beautiful campus) but on these boards, USC more often means South Carolina.
