Huh? Of course I wouldn't stake a claim to his assets. I don't know why you'd even think that? Someone asked if I would go to the funeral and I just said I'm not sure.

The mourners at his funeral would be her circle of friends/family/support not your's. You do understand that, don't you?

You are wrong! It happens and has happened to my personal knowledge and it will not be found out as long as one takes a few precautions and most important: the two parties to the affair don't share that information with anyone else.

OP probably means that it might compound his widow's grief if she suspects he has a mistress. OP is neither a colleague, family member nor a family friend, so her presence at the funeral might be "something to talk about".
