How do you think this response was in comparison to Melissa Hortman's assassination?

She was not nationally known.

She was assassinated in cold blood because she held elected office by a Trump supporter and anti-abortion activist. She was the Democratic House Speaker.

+1. Democrats on here can say it's terrible that Charlie Kirk was gunned down and you can't even bring yourself to say it's terrible that this Democratic lawmaker was also gunned down?

Didn’t see have her own thread? This thread is about Charlie Kirk.

And before the Right starts blaming this on the Left, note that the ADL (hardly a darling of the left these days) determined that all 61 political killings in the US were perpetrated by right-wing extremists. All of them.

"Politics behind both individual shootings and massacres
Politics have also driven large-scale massacres. Gunmen who killed 11 worshippers at a synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018, 23 shoppers at a heavily Latino Walmart in El Paso in 2019 and 10 Black people at a Buffalo grocery store in 2022 each cited the conspiracy theory that a secret cabal of Jews were trying to replace white people with people of color. That has become a staple on parts of the right that support Trump’s push to limit immigration.

The Anti-Defamation League found that from 2022 through 2024, all of the 61 political killings in the United States were committed by right-wing extremists. That changed on the first day of 2025, when a Texas man flying the flag of the Islamic State group killed 14 people by driving his truck through a crowded New Orleans street before being fatally shot by police."

Wow.

His whole thing was respectful debate and exchange of ideas on college campuses with those that disagreed with him. He was shot and killed on a college campus while doing this very thing. This is hard to process. wtf

Yep. 32 pages of comments and counting for the Charlie Kirk thread. No posts for the school shooting. Shows where their priorities are (entertainment as politics)

This thread is dedicated to the gun violence that he was part of enabling. The gun violence that those teenagers suffered today.

Because someone supports the Second Amendment and gun rights they deserve the death penalty? Got it.

Kirk said we have to accept some people will die so we can have 2A. I guess you could see him as a martyr, then.

Pp is just gloating bc they think it’s funny Charlie was a supporter of 2nd amendment rights.

He wouldn’t have changed his position even if he knew he was going to be shot. He was unafraid of stating his views. He knew he was a target. If you were a follower of his, you’d know that.

Great, so where’s the problem? He wa ready to die for what he believed in.

+1 not gloating. Just stating the obvious.

I abhor guns and gun violence. Kirk was willing to accept it so that he could carry a gun.

It's a bit of a poetic way to go for him. He was OK with loss of life defending his beliefs and he would have gone to bat for the shooters right to own the gun that killed him.

Charlie Kirk dying is who cares.

The first, sadly, will do nothing to change conversations in the US. It happens all the time.

The second will make the country even more divided and angry.

Sure, as soon as the right wing dials it back and gets off of its disingenuous high horses of guns and the who and why of gun violence and agrees to start help fix it.

But until then, no. You started it, right wingers.

There are non-stop comments about political violence on this threat .

So apparently you cannot condemn it. Got it.

No, he went to college campuses for confrontation. This simply isn't true.

Indeed, but MAGA are claiming Dems are gloating. They aren't. They are just stating the obvious - there is some irony of a man who stated that we have to accept people will die in order for us to be able to own guns being shot to death in a gun free zone.

-Independent who thinks the gun violence here is out of control, and the 2A nutters aren't helping.

Kirk is not a good faith honest debater. He refused to debate Dean Withers because Dean was too smart and knowledgeable for Kirk. He repeatedly dodged Withers even when Withers went out of his way to attend a Kirk event.
