Where did you absolutely hate?

Unpopular opinion but I was underwhelmed (not hate but not impressed either) Ireland. The people were very friendly and welcoming but it was gray and cold and raining the whole time (summer), there’s not that much to see and do, the food was terrible and overpriced, I guess I just didn’t get the appeal.

+1 to Ireland
Also, unlike the UK there are very few country walks accessible by public footpaths. Most of the countryside is privatized

+2 Went in May. It was ok....not great.

Much prefer Scotland.

Anonymous wrote:We just came back from Zermatt. The alpine/athletic side is great. The tourist side is terrible. Take a small town in the mountains, subtract all locals (you can't find them, you can only find store or restaurant staff or Matterhorn picture tourists from far far away) and add ultra-expensive watch, clothing, and similar stores. If we went and didn't get to see the Matterhorn, which was touch and go, there are a million better places to go in Switzerland. Berner Oberland, for example.

It sounds like Aspen or something. Great if you want to ski or shop at expensive stores or sip cocktails by a fire.

AGREED!! WAY too crunchy- the shops were awful and the food was meh- not high end at all either

White Duck Taco is fabulous
Champagne bookstore so fun
A few very good restaurants

Not high end means you are not in the 1 percent are you.

You didn’t like it because of liberalness.

Asheville has some great views and it’s a lovely get away for a weekend.

Hiking in the area is great, sliding rock so fun not that far.

Please stop pandering such nonsense. Did you not listen to Walz’s convention speech? He is not part of the 1%. Democrats are not supposed to be the party of the 1%. It’s Republican economic policies that harm the middle class. Your desire to be elite is harmful, selfish and very silly. And what gets people like Trump elected. Please sit down.

Shut up I hate Trump this post has nothing to do with Trump

I hate all republicans period full stop

There’s some awesome stuff in Northern Ireland including giants causeway, Belfast political murals, the titanic museum, Dunluce castle, etc. there’s also awesome archaeological stuff in regular Ireland and some beautiful places to walk but you need to get out a bit from the usual areas and go to places like Slieve League. I also really liked ccashel. I did find that the food was a bit like much of middle America where it’s fine for a few days but after a few days it becomes hard to find food that is not so heavy, especially if you are outside Dublin. There’s a lot of meat and fried stuff and after a while it feels like it just sits in my stomach. Gluten free people love Ireland though as it’s really easy to find gluten free options.

In the US Dallas and Houston are both soulless cities. Cleveland and Detroit are just tired. LA is nothing but freeways with no heart. NYC is just too crowded with garbage piled along the streets. San Francisco use to be wonderful but it’s closing down. Chicago in the summer is glorious. Boston is quirky, historic and fun.

Texas cities underwhelm me. I like NYC and just got back from San Francisco. SF was great. There are some seedy elements, but not nearly as bad as reported.

I’ve never been to Cleveland, but would actually like to go. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame looks interesting. Also, I could be wrong, but I imagine Cleveland as similar to Baltimore. Baltimore gets a lot of bad press, but is actually a great city to visit with lots of character, interesting neighborhoods and good food.

You probably wouldn't and shouldn't give Florida a last chance by visiting The Keys!! It's not like most people think. It's old, dry and hot as hell. Unless you have a boat you won't find any natural beach to swim in.

I know this exists, but it destroys my vacation to think about the starving children beggers while I'm trying to relax and enjoy myself or while im buying a nice sundress. The scenery, other than the flavelas, is very pretty, but a culture where that is acceptable is ugly.

I’m from Brazil and I can understand not liking certain aspects of the country but this sentiment is absurd. I think it highlights though that people can be well traveled and yet not gain any insight into other cultures. Or that travel does not lead to self awareness. A culture where poverty is acceptable is ugly. Are you American at all? Have you been to certain urban neighborhoods? Rural areas? Reservations? Outside a few countries, there is such poverty. I think what you really mean is that (esp with the “poverty abuts nicest places” comment) you want the poverty to be hidden away as to not disturb your vacation. Stick to resorts, lady.

That’s very descriptive. Care to expand?

Husband is Bangladeshi and I wouldn’t go back unless it’s to see family. I don’t hate it but it’s not my idea of a vacation. After going to a underdeveloped country I’d rather stick to more developed countries. I tend to get sick easily and it’s not fun being sick on vacation.
We enjoyed Turkey. I have no plans to visit any Asian countries anytime soon.

+ 1 to poster who said San Francisco was great. We went last year and the hype over how it would be dangerous and "shutting down" did not pan out at all. My kids loved it.

And disagree on the Florida Keys - it's so laid back and wonderful, super chill vibe and one of the most beautiful places in the country. Some very nice resorts. It's super different from the rest of Florida.

Lastly -- can a hotel be a place I hate? Because I haaaated the Aulani in Oahu. Loved the island, stay far away from the hotel. Disney nightmare (and I don't hate Disney).

I would never return to Punta Cana. We spent 10 days there, in two different AI resorts. I was prepared for the sargassum smell but the water is really gross and the sand is slimy; there was really no way to be ready for just how icky it is to walk in the ocean there. I also felt like the staff at the different resort restaurants were 'fake friendly' to get the highest tips possible, which I understand but still don't enjoy.

DH and I really liked Southern Ireland. We stayed near Kilkenny and were able to wander north, south, east, and west from there. Although it was summer we had beautiful weather every day except our last.

Niagara Falls. On its own, it’s beautiful but surrounded by tacky hotels, shops, and tourist traps. They should tear that all down and restore the land to its natural beauty.

Meh. Scotland has a lot of rain, the days get dark early, and it has the highest alcoholism in all of the UK (and may well now beat France for highest in Europe). If you're a fat American who plays golf, it might work.
