Where did you absolutely hate?

New York, New York

Places I have not enjoyed at all include:

Madrid- it’s just like visiting a landlocked NYC but without Broadway, fashion, or modern art. Too big and hard to navigate.

Cologne- just incredibly boring and nothing to see beyond the church and the chocolate factory.

Brussels. It’s okay but the third time I visited I found some charming places. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit though.

Amsterdam- okay the first time, but terribly overcrowded much of the year.

Galveston- just too hot and too many jellyfish

San Francisco and Portland- too many drug addicts and felt very very unsafe

Western Europe as a whole: overpriced, dingy and unfriendly- would be interested in seeing more of Eastern Europe

Beijing - crazy scale, felt lost in the crowd

Loved:
- Istanbul, Turkey as a whole, Greece, Paris, also loved Belize but stayed on an island there, loved NW Pakistan mountains, loved Bavaria and Austria in the winter, Shanghai, Kyoto, Hiroshima

Loved in the US: Scottsdale, Palm Beach, Bar Harbor, Detroit, Shenandoah Valley, Breckenridge, anywhere Montana, loved Hillsboro but scared of Portland, Orange County

Not a fan of Miami. While you have to be vigilant in NOLA, I love the city.

Depends where in Oahu.

+1

There are some amazing non touristy places in Oahu. But Waikiki is not worth the visit.

Anonymous wrote:I would never return to Punta Cana. We spent 10 days there, in two different AI resorts. I was prepared for the sargassum smell but the water is really gross and the sand is slimy; there was really no way to be ready for just how icky it is to walk in the ocean there. I also felt like the staff at the different resort restaurants were 'fake friendly' to get the highest tips possible, which I understand but still don't enjoy.

DH and I really liked Southern Ireland. We stayed near Kilkenny and were able to wander north, south, east, and west from there. Although it was summer we had beautiful weather every day except our last.

Can you name the resorts? Just booked the Finest Punta Cana for February...

NYC is just too crowded with garbage piled along the streets. San Francisco use to be wonderful but it’s closing down. Chicago in the summer is glorious. Boston is quirky, historic and fun.

Houston is far from soulless. I couldn’t deal with the late spring/summer/fall weather, and it’s not so green, but it’s the most diverse large city in the country (both racially- and religion-wise), and the food is incredible. I could say some things in favor of Dallas, but I can’t quibble much with negative reviews.

Back on topic, we found downtown Indianapolis sterile and creepy when we went for a wedding a couple of decades ago. It seems much cooler now.

Did not enjoy Carribbean vacation. Boring lying out on the beach got hot and grumpy, and the stark difference between the resort/tourist areas and the poverty/ramshackle areas where the locals lived was just depressing. most every island seemed to blend into each other and seemed to offer similar beach/resort vibe. if I was going to do a beach vacation would prefer a place with more interesting culture like Hawaii or Southeast Asia more different from the US.

Prague. We went in 2015. Charles Bridge was jam packed with people. We saw more than one person peeing on walls.

Maybe it was nicer before it was overrun with people, but we didn’t enjoy it much at all.
