I’m from Brazil and I can understand not liking certain aspects of the country but this sentiment is absurd.  I think it highlights though that people can be well traveled and yet not gain any insight into other cultures. Or that travel does not lead to self awareness. A culture where poverty is acceptable is ugly.  Are you American at all?  Have you been to certain urban neighborhoods? Rural areas?  Reservations? Outside a few countries, there is such poverty.  I think what you really mean is that (esp with the “poverty abuts  nicest places” comment) you want the poverty to be hidden away as to not disturb your vacation. Stick to resorts, lady. [/quote]
