Why are people more sympathetic to Lindsay Clancy than Andrea Yates? (Child death mentioned)

(I thought Gofundme can't be used to pay legal defense fees for violent crimes?)

I'll say it again. This go fund me is disgusting. There are so many worthier recipients of your contributions.

I agree, and I'm the OP of this thread. Reading through some of the Gofundme comments, I actually saw a name I recognize that gave a large donation. it's a medical related business and as a child I went to summer camp with a close relative of the business owner. There are several (LARGE) contributions from medical practices, departments at hospitals, etc. I find it horrifying that they are supporting this so publicly.

That GFM money will be wiped out once the medical/rehab bills start piling up, esp if she has paralysis.

We don’t know if she is paralyzed. Anyway, paralyzed people are sent to prison so at that point the state will pay. I suspect the money is going to the high priced fancy lawyer - which again violates go fund me’s terms of service making the go fund me even more disgusting. The people donating seem to forget that she assaulted and strangled her three children one by one.

No, I don’t think they forgot that. They just believe experts when they explain about post partum psychosis and how it can make you do things you otherwise wouldn’t do. How it can make you believe, for example, that you need to kill your children to rescue them from the devil or something totally delusional. They don’t think she’s evil and can imagine nothing worse than waking up from a psychosis to find you’ve murdered your children.

Have "the experts" said that Lindsay had post partum psychosis?

What you and the other supporters should think about is why you want to give this person every possible justification and excuse when none have yet been verified. We have no confirmation of PPP and yet I've never seen so much sympathetic justification for someone who has killed their children.

People should not be able to claim not guilty for reason of insanity.

If they're so insane that they're killing people, then they should either be in prison or death penalty

According to her new lawyer, she was on a dozen medications at the time of the incident and the husband had told doctors she was “turning into a zombie.” You all still think he should have gone out?

Post partum depression leading to psychotic symptoms and homicide/suicide is exceedingly rare. Nobody ever thinks in advance it will be them or their loved one. The Andrea Yates case was so extreme precisely because she had suffered from it previously, was hospitalized repeatedly and warned to never have another pregnancy. The red flags were abundant that she would kill her children and Rusty should really have been prosecuted and imprisoned for the child endangering he engaged in by leaving Andrea alone with their kids.

But even if he didn't know she would kill them, he thought it was cool to leave them with a "zombie" (his words)? We are talking about a crawling baby and a 3 year old boy, in addition to the 5 year old daughter. Do you remember what its like to have a 3 year old?

When psych patients talk about meds making them feel like a zombie it’s not typically about the inability to supervise a kid for 30 minutes. It’s a deadening of emotions and a mental fatigue that can arise with the wrong meds or meds combo. It in no way immediately triggers a parenting competency issue.

Plenty of DCUM moms are supervising their kids after a glass or two of wine or some other version of mommy’s little helper, by the way. Does that outrage you?

Speak for yourself. You’re clearly a crappy mom. No one I know would do this, let alone think it’s ok to supervise two small children and a baby while on a cocktail of meds that have turned her into a “zombie.”

From her lawyer :

“He told the newspaper that between last October and January, Clancy was prescribed 13 different psychiatric medications, including zolpidem (sold under the brand name Ambien); clonazepam (sold under the brand name Klonopin); diazepam (sold under the brand name Valium); fluoxetine (sold under the brand name Prozac); lamotrigine (sold under the brand name Lamictil); lorazepam (sold under the brand name Ativan); mirtazapine (sold under the brand name Remeron); quetiapine fumarate (sold under the brand name Seroquel); sertaline (sold under the brand name Zoloft); and trazodone, hydroxyzine, amitriptyline, and buspirone.”

Is there any history of those drugs making homicidal? Suicidal yes, but I don’t think it makes one homicidal. She wasn’t driving drunk and accidentally killed them. She intentionally strangled them (which takes a minute or two each) one at a time.

I tried all those drugs with postpartum depression. I was suicidal. Sorry, she can't blame the drugs

Yes there is a link between SSRIs and aggressive and even homicidal thoughts and actions. This piece discusses how the black box warnings for this are included in some countries but not in the USA where Pharma lobbied the FDA and kept the warnings off - the only warning is increased suicidality in young people which is another known side effect of some SSRIs.

I believe Zoloft in particular is linked to the Aurora Colorado movie theater mass shooter and also to Phil Hartmann’s wife who murdered him and then took her own life. I’m sure there are other cases.

The biggest scam Pharma ever pulled was convincing millions of Americans that SSRIs and SNRIs were largely harmless. Homicidality is an extremely rare side effect but many of the more common side effects can add up to significant negative impacts on health over time and we really should be prescribing the natural remedies for depression before we ever hand out these pills like candy.

No, they have not. The PP is just writing fanfiction.
