Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Do I think they care? Probably not. Why should that preclude me from sending them? They're credible sources, not the rantings of someone with zero content expertise. CDC is recommending continued masking based on location specifics. MCPS might want to pay attention to that particular aspect of their guidance, rather than ignoring it and acting as though we have low vaccination rates and overwhelmed hospitals. |
You realize we just had a huge surge, that surged very quickly and it can happen again. Vaccinations alone aren't enough. If they were, we wouldn't have just had a big surge. Its not just about hospitalizations but community spread. Do you think your child is going to learn much when their teacher is out sick for a week? Do you think if 1/2 the class is out for a week, your child will learn much as the teacher will have to play catch up when they return vs. teaching new material. The best thing we can do to keep schools in person and keep students learning is to maintain social distancing and masking until covid is better understood and we have a less contegous mutation or better vaccines. |
We don't have facts or numbers. MCPS, the State of Maryland, MoCo and the Fed's haven't been transparent. And, now they are giving out home tests so people aren't reporting positives so we have even less facts and numbers than before. Plus, the home test aren't always accurate. Its hard to have a productive conversation with all the cover ups and lack of information by the government. The fact is we know MoCo is highly vaccinated and we still had a terrible surge in our schools a month ago. Thankfully it was short lived but it ramped up quickly and can happen again. |
This would all be true and accurate if there was confidence in the type of masking that our schools are doing. I would be more sympathetic to the stance: 'we must all wear KN95s' than I am to the stance 'we must continue the status quo' The status quo is theater. It's stupid. So we should either wear masks that work, or not wear masks at all |
A decent cloth mask with a filter or surgical mask is fine. I refuse KN95's as they are not regulated. N95 or level 3 surgical. Its up to parents to be responsible and teach their kids community responsibility to help keep the schools in person and to work toward getting rid of masks. But, we cannot even get parents to keep sick kids home. Teachers are being told to go to work sick. |
| This troll thread just won't die. |
Let me see if I have this straight. Kids can’t unmask because we might get another surge imminently? And because we need to prevent community spread? Nah. No country has had a surge soon after Omicron. And frankly, if an Omicron surge means mild disease and minimal hospitalization, that’s not reason enough to keep ALL kids in masks. One-way masking works. So high risk people and those who want to can wear KN95s or something similar. The MoCo mask mandate expires February 22nd, so remind me again why that doesn’t extend to kids? |
|
One way masking clearly doesn't work or we wouldn't have all the positives. KN95 are not all reliable so pushing them makes no sense. You want another surge? You want someone to get really sick? What is wrong with you that you cannot handle basic precautions? |
So your argument against going mask optional and in favor of continued masking in schools, is that KN95s do not provide reliable protection? Interesting. |
| Our case rate is back down to 60 cases/day. Why are we requiring our kids to wear masks right now? |
I'm still waiting for this PP to explain why it's acceptable to lift mask mandates for adults and not for children, when we know that COVID is a much lower risk to the latter than the former. If she really cares about community spread, she'd be so busy protesting she wouldn't have time to post here incessantly. Also, who is she kidding that most people around here wear KN95s regularly, let alone correctly? Good grief. |

FYI - Frederick to vote to remove masks at their next meeting on Wed 2/23.
We'll see if they're the first to do it |
Yes that was a bizarre argument. |
That's sad. It should be a decision by the dept of health based on science, not politics. |
