S/o teenage daughter used N word

Anonymous
It is her birthday today, and a friend of hers posted one of those collages on instagram wishing her a happy birthday In the corner is a screenshot of a Snapchat my daughter sent, in a black gown and drawings on her face like Harry Potter (i.e. lightning on forehead, big glasses, holding a wand) captioned: "The dark lord ain't never faced a nigga like me"

Im appalled.

Is your daughter black?
I am white, so not 100% sure, but am thinking I would be angrier at a white girl for saying that than a black girl.

I give my daughter a Talking To any time I see she's social media friends with someone using the N word, or degrading words towards women.

Oh, then she'd be in HUGE trouble if she were my daughter. She'd have to write a multi-page paper on why it's offensive AND inappropriate, what it tells people about her by using that language about herself, etc. We would have BIG TALKS about this. And obviously phone privileges would be gone for the summer. Sometimes you have to be gangsta from home, in your bedroom, without your social media.

She's so busted. . Dummy.

You should talk to your daughter and also impose consequences for her conduct. It doesn't matter if she thought she was being flip or cute. If you don't impose something meaningful, your words won't have an impact. Obviously, your distaste for this word hasn't yet penetrated her mentality.

Is this public? How old is your daughter? Is her name attached to It? Basically if an college admission officer googled her and finds it, she is out. They won't even give her the time of day. In fact, you can let her know her social life/future work life is over if anyone sees it. I wouldn't hire her. And yes I Google to check people out. I am sorry your daughter is an awful person. I hope you get through to her about this

This is pretty much what would happen in my house too. DD would REALLY need to feel the consequences in meaningful ways. Ways that are connected to the action (not a random punishment).

Not the worst, if you ask me.

Omg she's not an awful person! She is a teen. They need to learn somehow.

OP there's already another thread on this this evening. The consensus is you need to explain to her that she as a white person simply cannot use that. Full stop.

What?? She's a teen. I disagree that she's an awful person. Teens do stupid stuff and we're supposed to help them.
