She simply is not allowed to use the word... because she is white.

Of course all the songs have it and she probably sings it all the time which has desensitized her to the use of the word.

I told my kids plain and simple, you are white... you are privileged, ... so no you can't ever use the word.

You should watch the show "Blackish" the episode called the "N word". It is very smart, and explains how each generation uses the word.

There has to be just ONE troll who is trying to excuse this, right?? It is NEVER ok for a 16 year old white girl from UMC DC to use any variation of the word. This has been discussed ad nauseum in the media and popular culture for about a decade.
I would love to see the fallout of one of these brave "it's no big deal" posters walking into a room with any POC present and casually calling themselves the N word. I have a feeling the flippancy would disappear pretty quickly...

I find the whole excusing it because she's a kid and didn't know better to be problematic. I mean, it's a reflection of your failure as a parent if your child does not understand why it's completely, utterly unacceptable to use to the N-word. Period end of story.

I can just see the "oh, no, she didn't mean...rap songs..." excuses. But no. If you haven't taught your children about the awful treatment of black people in this country for centuries -- as recently as grandma and grandpa were alive -- then you are willfully ignoring it because to admit it is to recognize it. Ok. So are there certain things black people cannot say? Or does this racism only run in one direction? Because saying that one race can do something but another is prohibited, is in fact racist.
