This isn't a thing. Asking people to denounce something is not a test.

Alex Jones traffics in conspiracy theories. It should be easy for any decent person to say "of course, I denounce a person who spread vile lies about Sandy Hook and who mocked the deaths of elementary schoolchildren."

Yet, Republicans overwhelmingly cannot bring themselves to do so. Why?

Because they overwhelmingly support Alex Jones.

So it is in fact, "a thing".

Exactly. It should be simplest thing to say: "Sandy Hook was real, a tragedy for all of us." "January 6th was an attack, and I do not condone political violence." And, on....

It's too bad, then, that Republicans are motivated not by the desire to be decent human beings, but instead, above all else, by the desire to own the libs.

There should almost be a spinoff thread from this entitled: “Proof the GOP is the party of white supremacy.”

And this is the light money.

I'm sure he got the idea from that movie where conservatives were hunted.

When you have conservatives praising a mentally ill man, radicalized by right wing republicans, who wanted to kill the Speaker of the House...the conservative party is no longer "Christian".

The Republicans are too morally weak to do this publicly. Too much pressure within the party from the hard rightwing. They lurch from short-term crisis to short-term crisis. For the good of America, they need to move beyond Trump but no one wants to be first person to take a bold stance.

Give them the cover of a temporary anonymity. We know they hate the Trumps, but feel it necessary to placate the base.

You give them too much credit. They need the rabid base to stay relevant and in power. That’s worth more than principle, private or public.

The rank and file are motivated by grievance. They are just miserable and want someone to blame and suck up all the lies and misinformation, because it makes them feel validated.

The GOP establishment is motivated by the desire to attain or keep power. period.
