The Republicans are too morally weak to do this publicly. Too much pressure within the party from the hard rightwing. They lurch from short-term crisis to short-term crisis. For the good of America, they need to move beyond Trump but no one wants to be first person to take a bold stance.

Give them the cover of a temporary anonymity. We know they hate the Trumps, but feel it necessary to placate the base.

Looked at it this way, they are reliably 6-9 million votes short of a majority, year after year. It will only get worse. The electoral college obscures the result, but as states tip from red to blue due to changing demographics, it's political death for them.

They're looking at control of congress in 2022. They can't do it by alienating their base, which is wholly beholden to Trump. So, while they are bleeding slowly, between voter suppression, and gerrymandering, they can maintain control at least in the near term. IF there had been a repudiation of the party and its politics in the last election, maybe it would have accelerated the process. But, as it stands, they have nothing to lose in the next say 10 years, by sticking to their guns.

Nope. He's been credibly accused of sexual assault by over 20 women. Even Roy Moore won the GOP nomination after accusation of sexually abusing teen girls.

(He was a terrible candidate to start with--even without the accusations., but they came out afterwards. Just think, he had held public offices for many years and yet, these accusations did not come out until the Senate race against a Dem.)

He would not have won the nomination had it come out earlier.
