The GOP is broken beyond repair

"Scholars said the predominance of election deniers in the GOP bears alarming similarities to authoritarian movements in other countries, which often begin with efforts to delegitimize elections. Many of those promoting the stolen-election narrative, they said, know that it is false and are using it to gain power.

“Election denialism is a form of corruption,” said Ruth Ben-Ghiat, the author of “Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present” and a historian at New York University. “The party has now institutionalized this form of lying, this form of rejection of results. So it’s institutionalized illegal activity. These politicians are essentially conspiring to make party dogma the idea that it’s possible to reject certified results.”

In the short term, scholars said, that party dogma is likely to produce multiple election challenges this fall from deniers who lose. It could poison the 2024 presidential race, as well."

Yes, very much so. Yet I am kind of infuriated as the similar signs were present when GOP legislatures in MI NC PA + WI moved to curtail the authority and powers of newly elected Dem governors in those states. These kinds of authoritarian moves are made by Erdogan and Orban but nary a peep from national press, possibly a one-day story in one or two outlets but that's it. The US national press is so poorly equipped to cover this moment.

The national press is well equipped to report on this; their owners have a vested interest in not informing people.

With increased voter turnout Republicans get fewer and fewer votes. The powers that be don’t want Democrats in charge because they actually march toward change and equality.

This. People who don't pay attention to politics really seem to be falling for the "both sides" nonsense. It makes my blood boil.

But sure, both sides. Right “moderates”?

The GOP made a pact with the devil. We are suffering from their destructive obsession with “owning the libs”/winning at all costs. They’re garbage if they don’t renounce Alex Jones.

The entire reason we got to this point is because our first president George Washington stepped down after two terms, which created a tradition. One that's being trampled right now.

It is to many voters. Alex Jones is dispised for what he did to those families and we want to know you feel the same

Alex Jones traffics in conspiracy theories. It should be easy for any decent person to say "of course, I denounce a person who spread vile lies about Sandy Hook and who mocked the deaths of elementary schoolchildren."

Yet, Republicans overwhelmingly cannot bring themselves to do so. Why?

Because they overwhelmingly support Alex Jones.
