The elections are in strongly democratic leaning states. A D win won’t really change the calculus.

And back on furlough Nov 21, since the House won't come back due to the Epstein discharge petition.

Why? Do they need the House to open the government ?

If the Senate were to somehow come to pass the current CR, they aren’t needed.

If the Senate comes to agreement to change any aspect of the CR, the House is needed.

Good thing what passed the house a month ago was a clean CR, what every democrat advocated for in prior shutdowns.

It’s not clean though, because a clean CR means it is identical to the prior year and last year had the Obamacare subsidies.

In Covid when the rest of us Canned with no back pay and we could not get unemployment payments for months as you guys at Unemployment had dated systems to do it online and shut the offices and stopped answering the phones we all did all of the above to hustle.

Why not work? My neighbors kids started a car detailing business in driveway in covid, my kids did door dash, instacart and started a side consulting business.

But why are they at starbucks and netflix and chilling go do some work.

some people are, but it is generally restricted by ethics clearance (and those ethics people aren't there right now), and it's not like we can sign up for a job that would be consistent in the future (nor would someone needing a consistent hire, hire us).

that is a big fat lie. Look Gardners by me are charging $1,000 to clean up leaves this year. Are you telling me if a Fed rang my doorbell and said for $800 cash I will remove all your leaves is not allowed? Or detail a car for $200 cash, or paint your neighbors kids bedroom for $500 bucks.

Sounds like excuses. Or you could just barter. When my family had financial troubles when I was a teen we need new water heater in summer. Mom made a deal I work for guy a few weeks in summer for free. He was really happy. Was kinda fun. I spend a month helping him on jobs. That is barter a Fed could do that. Plus Feds kids and spouse can work. If all five of you are sitting home doing nothing and you are expecting handouts when there is a massive labor shortage that is crazy.

How many neighbors have bedrooms they want painted by a furloughed Fed?

Honestly you’d be a fools to give me hundreds of dollars to paint a room or clear leaves. I’ve never done that; can’t imagine it would be a professional job worthy of pay my very first time trying it.

How can democrats sign onto a clean CR when the admin is claiming it was legal to fire people during the shutdown and legal not to pay furloughed workers?

Yes he can. The House is full of bums who are living the life right now not working AND collecting paychecks. Why come back and work.

100% This
I am tired of the other narrative that feds do not work.

Congress doesn't work! Congress takes a vacation whenever it wants. They have salaries $175,000 a year, yet Hawley has a home in Vienna worth millions Hum... (not his wife's money, he's always saying he's the "breadwinner although ladies she is leading the crusade to remove all your rights and hers, the idiot). He never goes to MO except when he thinks he's going to lose his seat. Never has he done one thing for the people who voted him in. Andy Harris of MD a total worthless at his job directly votes against the interests of the people who voted for him, same with Jim Jordan, none of these people do their jobs. In the private sector, they would be fired! And yet voters are idiots and keep voting in these worthless shits. Their voting records are public so are the bills they say they produce. Jim Jordon hasn't produced shit in like 15 years. Why the hell does he have a job? Stop telling feds they need to do better when Republicans literally do nothing for their own paychecks. Which again is public record it takes 10 minutes to see they are worthless.

It absolutely is clean because the existing law had those subsidies expiring.

But it radically changes existing spending levels. You don’t think expiring tax cuts wouldn’t be reserved??

It probably would be, but then the republicans wouldn’t be trying to move forward with a clean resolution.

I’m not arguing the Republican’s have the better policy argument, but have passed a clean resolution and I think it is fair to place a lot (not all) of the blame for the shutdown on the democrats who are clearly trying to use the leverage of opening the government to achieve policy objectives and fire up their base.
