Matt Gaetz tapped for AG

For the life of me I don't understand why Trump picked this guy. If there hasn't been a crime or criminal charges then its the media doing their spin. Still, Trump has made some good choices. This guy and Pete I would have passed on.

That's what is unfortunate. Plus there was never anything criminal. It needs to be dropped.

We don't want this scummy guy to be the attorney general. Find someone better. That should really not be hard to do.

And yet when he tells them no, he's not replacing Gaetz, they will walk that plank and they will do it with sh** still dripping from their mouths

Yup. I haven't seen anything in the last decade that would indicate that they will do otherwise.

I'm detaching myself from this circus this time around. There's no reason for it.

There was definitely criminal activity -- at a minimum he paid women for sex (the Venmo records and photocopies of the check he paid are public knowledge at this point). The evidence of illegal drugs at these parties is well documented and it is very likely they have evidence Gaetz used or purchased illegal drugs.

The reason the DOJ dropped it's investigation is that they would have trouble proving the higher level charges in court (sex trafficking across state lines specifically) because of witness quality, and the DOJ doesn't generally prosecute a state-level crime like paying for sex or using illegal drugs. It's up to local authorities to look into those.

On top of what we know to be illegal behavior, Gaetz also engaged in unethical and inappropriate behavior as a member of Congress -- showing colleagues photos and videos of young women in sexual situations on the floor of the House.

All of this is disqualifying regardless of your party affiliation. Gaetz praised the congressman Charlie Wilson in his book for his bevior sleeping with prostitutes and partying all the time when he served in Congress. There is a reason Wilson was never tapped to join the cabinet at State or DoD despite being qualified to do so based on his knowledge of and strong leadership on international and defense issues. Wilson was much more qualified than Gaetz is for AG. But Wilson would never have passed a Senate confirmation because he could not keep his nose clean and it would have made him too susceptible to compromise. It's one thing for a congressional district to decide to elect guys like this knowing they are like this but it's something else entirely to entrust high level cabinet positions to them that will give them broad discretion of the country's law and order apparatus.

This appointment is such a joke and even the Republicans in Congress know it. It's Trump testing loyalty and seeing how far he can push things. It's not a valid appointment undertaken with the best interest of Americans in mind.

Who in their right mind would marry Matt Gaetz?

You know why he picked both of them. Come on. It's the picks like Rubio or Lutnick that feel like a surprise. This is Trump doing exactly what he wants to do and not listening to advisors who no doubt are counseling more pragmatic choices.

Trump wants unqualified patsies at DOJ and DoD who will carry out illegal marching orders if he tells them to. The only reason he didn't nominate Eric and DJT Jr is likely because they don't want to open themselves up to the potential legal liability. Whereas Gaetz and Hegseth are willing to risk it, whether out of stupidity or what is clearly a pair of risk-taking and self-undermining personalities.

Just FYI that Gaetz's sister in law, Roxanne Lucky, has stated on multiple occasions that Gaetz is a sleazebag and a creep and that she is not surprised by any of the allegations against him.

Predictably, Gaetz's wife issued a statement saying Roxanne has mental health problems.

I would also have mental health problems if my sister married Matt Gaetz. Can you imagine having to interact with that guy at family functions? As someone with a PITA brother in law, I feel for Roxanne.

There’s no denying Gaetz was a partier and loved younger college aged women but none of that is illegal. He’s never said he was a choir boy. He’s right wing populist and wants to go after neocons, Democrats, lobbyists, Wall Street, Big Tech monopolies, and Republican establishment politicians. Why should we stop him?

Why is this suddenly a problem? Everyone agrees this was okay for a house member. AG is not more selective vs the house.

His wife is a little strange. There is a video of her singing (murdering) the national anthem and it looked like she was at the Capitol. Why?
