APS: New petition in support of 4th Comprehensive High School option / Kenmore

Anonymous
Here is a new petition directed at School Board and County Board members in support of the Kenmore option for the 1300 new high school seats. This option is the only one that creates a pathway for a 4th comprehensive high school. The text of the actual petition was taken from an earlier DCUM post this morning and reads:

I am an Arlington resident and I strongly favor building more high school seats that provide the easiest path to a 4th comprehensive high school. Please wait to build at the Ed Center until a future time when we need to expand all high schools. Our community does not like the idea of 4,000 students at the same campus - regardless of what kind of instructional program it is. A 4,000 seat high school creates serious inequities in the county. Please vote to build at Kenmore with a co-located high school and middle school on the large 32-acre site. This plan is the only option that establishes a solid pathway to a 4th comprehensive high school. The traffic in all of Arlington is poor; we can and should work to improve access to the Kenmore campus. It would be better to have spread-out start times with high school, middle, and elementary all starting at different times. The Ed Center site would also pose significant traffic issues with 4,000 kids all starting at the same time. Please consider using the current Ed Center building as interim space while starting the process of establishing a 4th comprehensive high school at Kenmore. Thank you.

Send it to ArlNow. It ties in nicely with the town hall tonight.

Do you know how to do that?

Not the OP but please don't sign anonymously. Gives it a lot more weight if families are willing to openly state this is their position, and if APS wanted to, they could at least sort of validate that the signers are actual Arlington residents.

Sure. Put it on AEM.

Thank you for putting this together! Is there any way the creators of the first petition can send it out to all 1000 parents who signed the first one?

I will ask the person who manages the original petition.

I sent this around to the people who signed the first one. There was a box to include a link to the new petition, which I did, but I'm not sure that link showed up in my email, and I can't seem to edit the post. I added a comment beneath the post that includes the link for good measure.

When I did the original petition, I papered the neighborhood, including businesses at Westover and Lee Harrison, with fliers showing the text of and a link to the petition. Suggest you guys do the same to get the word out. Good luck!
