FCPS comprehensive boundary review

Dr. Reid has stated (on video) that the priority of the rezoning process and revision to 8130 is following Fairfax County's One Fairfax.

One Fairfax, defined on the Fairfax .gov website is:

"One Fairfax is a joint racial and social equity policy of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and School Board. The 2016 One Fairfax Resolution commits the county and schools to intentionally consider equity when making policies or delivering programs and services.

I. PURPOSE Fairfax County embraces its growing diverse population and recognizes it as a tremendous asset but also knows that racial and social inequities still exist.
This policy defines expectations for consideration of racial and social equity, and in particular, meaningful community involvement when planning, developing, and implementing policies, practices, and initiatives. It provides a framework to advance equity in alignment with our stated visions and priorities. This policy informs all other policies and applies to all publicly delivered services in Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools.

That within one school district there are schools like Langley and schools like Lewis? This is why this is being done and needs to be drastic, and needs to be done every 5 years, because we can’t let there continue to be this level of disparity within one district. If this process goes intended to plan the schools will improve, as they should. Because public education should be as equal as it can be within one district.

You are living in a fantasy land. If this process goes as intended, a bunch of people at higher performing schools will leave and every school will be ok to bad. The variability of test scores from one school to the other will be lower, but the average score will be lower too. This is exactly how it has played out in other places where zoning is done with SES balancing in mind.

What's good for FCPS is bad for the individual family at a higher performing school. You are delusional if you think UMC families will just sit back and take it at the expense of their own kids' education.

+1 In addition, you will have buses crisscrossing Fairfax County. It won't work.

You mean like from Herndon and western Great Falls to the eastern edge of McLean? Sounds completely absurd!

DP.

Oh look, it’s the same misinformed, one-track mind poster that shows up every day to complain about an at-max fifteen minute additional drive🙄

“Bussing for me, but not for thee.”

Funny how that term is only pejorative when it’s less wealthy kids on the bus or a bus to a less wealthy school.

Why was the thread with the leaked memo deleted? The last post I saw proposed a petition.

Was that thread deleted to protect confidential information?

Was it deleted because someone said it is fake? Does saying it’s fake mean that it’s fake?

If that one was deleted because FCPS reached out (at a credible level within FCPS), why is the “leaked map” thread (https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1255416.page)still there?

Does this mean that the “leaked map” is not fake?

Or, more likely, you'll have a MC and UMC flight away from Fairfax County public schools and/or Fairfax County itself.
where would they go?

I am sure FCPS has data on student attrition from the aftermath of the 2008 boundary study. There were a lot of families who moved out of the area or sent their kids to private schools. PVI, St. Tim's, Nysmith, and Ad Fontes were laughing all the way to the bank.

First, this isn’t busing. Second, you should really look into the numerous studies about chronic absenteeism among lower SES kids and how distance from school is a primary factor.

I should be careful though, because then you’ll start arguing that UMC kids should have to miss more school in the name of equity.

It was not deleted because FCPS reported it. I reported because it seemed like a lie and because boundary comments were starting to show up there. Jeff has made it clear this is the thread for you all to spin out about boundary changes that haven’t even been proposed yet.

Wherever similarly positioned populations go in other systems with low-achieving government schools.

Busses "crisscross the county" NOW to get to Langley.

Busses "crisscross the county" NOW to get to AAP centers.

Busses "crisscross the county" NOW to get to TJ.

But you or a PP summoned up some made-up fantasy where busses are "crisscrossing the county" to deliver poor kids to your door or your kids to a poorer school. So transparently elitist. Is the Moms for Liberty forum down today?

Wasn’t me. But as I’ve mentioned before, wanting stability in a school system is a bedrock principle that both democrats and republicans overwhelmingly back.

You are the extremist here.

It is not extremist to call out posters who fear monger by conjuring up scenarios that already exist.

This isn't a hobby. We're in West Springfield and there's nothing I like less than checking out this thread and worrying that my kid is about to be rezoned away from her friends and our neighborhood school.
