Shutdown Rhetoric

The reason DACA blew this up is because there was a bipartisan deal on DACA back in September but the Republicans decided to reneg on their prior agreement.

Essentially yes. Eff the 850k civilian govt employees who now don’t get paid and back pay isn’t even guaranteed. Who cares if you need to be a US citizen for the job. I mean the dreamers FEEL like citizens and that’s what’s important.

Nope. They had a deal. Kelly nixed it. It's Trump's shutdown.

Well it wouldn’t have gotten there at Dems approach to everything isn’t - OMG we need to help the illegals. No you didn’t. You could do a clean CR without invoking the illegals at all.

They are Americans who lived here their whole lives.

And you are admitting that there was no willingness to compromise. So it is, in fact, Trump's shutdown.

They are not LEGAL Americans.

People are not "legal'

Sure they are. Unfortunately, we have way too many here that are illegal.

People aren’t illegal. Such a cruel view of other humans.

They are cruel. And once they're finished with illegals, who do they turn their cruelty towards next? Legals. And who after that?

This talking point just isn’t working. But keep beating it all you want!

Actually, it is not a talking point. It is the truth.
This was totally unavoidable, but the Dems chose to fight for the illegals over the security of the American people.

Yes, it would have been unavoidable if 1) the GOP Congress passed a budget for October 1 which is their job, 2) Re-funded CHIP, which they could have done any time since it expired at the end of September, which was their job, 3) Passed a clean DACA, which they could have done the day after Trump signed the EO ending DACA on March 1.

However, since the GOP spent its time and political capital on a wholly unpopular tax bill with promises to do some or all of the above, they created this mess. It was exacerbated by a President who has moved and then eliminated the goal posts towards a deal.

As it is, there is a veto-proof majority who are in favor of 1) funding the government, 2) authorizing DACA and 3) fully funding CHIP.

So why won't Ryan and McConnell bring those bills forward?

THAT is the problem.

What happened to the great negotiator?

Again... it starts from the top people. Even Trump said so.

This comment is unintelligible.

Claire McCaskill asked for unanimous consent to move to a bill to make sure that our troops get paid no matter what. It was objected to as well.

I guess GOP hates the military too.

Nope. Polling this week shows that the GOP is 20 points underwater on this. Twitter analytics, even with Russian bots trying to help, would also discount this opinion.
