Just a guess, but burns are a kind of traumatic injury that involves neither blunt force nor sharp objects. |
I am just numb this morning. What kind of world are we living in where people beat and stab and set 10 year old boys on fire? |
The same one where police shoot 12 year year old boys playing with toy guns, where they kidnap and rape school girls en masse from villages, where they kidnap young children into slavery for prostitution and hard labor, where they shoot girls in the head for advocating for educational rights ... |
No scenario is good, of course but this would be one that sounds possible. |
I know. Everyday there are horrors in the world--worse than this. This one just feels close to home for me--but --sadly, you're right. |
I keep checking in, hoping to see a post about a break in this horrible case. |
I guess I'm a naive googler too because I am glad to be warned about that. |
This is a common occurance with Google, or any search engine, for that matter. Just delete history and you should be fine. |
This thread is too long to read in its entirety, but one article I read was that there was unusual activity in the neighborhood all week..reports of a prowler, aggressive vacuum salesperson(do people still actually do this?) etc. It sounds like canvassing a neighborhood with two scenarios:
1) random criminals lurking around to see who was home when, and what they may have to offer in terms of burglary. Or 2) a professional hit with a crew scoping out the neighborhood in advance of the crime to determine best time to attack. The only thing from keeping me from believing 100% in option one is that this is a block or two from the VP's house. Why pick a house so close to the secret service (unless the thugs didn't even know the proximity to the VP, which is possible). The only thing keeping me from believing 100% in option two is with a hit, I would assume that they would be in and out, not hiding in the house for more than 12 hours. That doesn't makes sense to me. I guess I will, in the end, assume option 1...a burglary gone very, tragically, horribly wrong. |
He died of traumatic injuries. |
Having lived in the DC area for years and having kept up with the news on crimes like this, nine times out of 10 its garden variety thugs perpetrating these crimes. This sounds no different. Nice to speculate about the conspiracies like a martial arts rival but face it, they were very vulnerable where they lived and they are not far from some of the roughest areas on the East Coast. Let this be a lesson: if you are going to live in a fancy neighborhood in this area: pay extra for very good security. Get dogs, get a guard, build high cement walls and put sharp glass on top. Do NOT flaunt your wealth. This is not Kansas, people. Visit Bogota, Colombia and get some ideas of how you can beef up on your personal security. I am always astounded at how vulnerable wealthy people make themselves. |
The proximity to the Vice President's house is being greatly exaggerated in my opinion. The home is only close to the perimeter of the Naval Observatory and the VP's house is set pretty far back. There is a thickly wooded area that separates them. The proximity of the Belgian Embassy is probably much more important, as well as other near by diplomatic facilities. |
Actually, this crime does sound different. Very, very different. Not talking about ninja sword Shogun theories. Rather, the protracted nature of the events (24 hours? 36 hours?) and the spectacular brutality -- not to mention the number of homicides -- is very rare. |
I have been wondering ..did anyone actually see any of the people in the house on Wednesday?
did the father go to work? |
