Of course, a sword is a sharp instrument. Mr. Savapoulos could have invited a martial arts acquaintance/acquaintances over for a duel? The acquaintance/acquaintances had this planned the entire time. |
When you lie down with dogs.... |
If police let public know weapon a sword , perp would know to go into deeper hiding... |
What does 'blunt force or sharp object injuries' mean? I assumed that meant knife wounds. If all of the victims had 'various traumatic injuries', but only three of the four had 'blunt force or sharp object injuries', then what kind of injuries did the fourth victim have? |
I bet your little sarcastic self didn't read the martial arts blog where the deceased challenges a guy named Ron to duel on the mat. I did. And the jist of it is this: Mr. Lovret has repeatedly been asked to step forward to allow others (such as the Aiki News) to verify his claims of becoming the headmaster of not only one, but two previously unheard martial traditions. This kind of request is not at all unusual and done frequently in Japan. If Mr. Lovret has truly been honest about his claims then he shouldn't have any problems with backing them up with physical evidence. Even though Mr. Lovret did respond to the Aiki News' request, he only supplied a copy of the hiden mokuroku he received from the Kodokai (so he did receive the request). For those of you that don't know, the hiden mokuroku is also the lowest classical rank in Daito-ryu given after a mere 28 training sessions. It does not give the authority to teach Daito-ryu either. You can double check this by doing a search of the archives of Iaido-L. Lovret is the guy Savvas followed and he didn't take kindly to the fact above being made public. Now it was in 1999. Maybe he got over it. Maybe not. But you know look like an idiot. |

This thread has jumped the shark ... |
Agreed. But maybe whoever did this first came to know of the family through some martial arts connection? Or the ironworks. Or driving around the neighborhood. Who knows. This is a tragic story - especially if the boy had trauma wounds and the fire started in his room. |
I knew Amy and her husband and they were both extremely kind, thoughtful, normal (very wealthy) well adjusted people. Also, good parents and charitable. There was nothing remotely fishy or sketchy about them. |
This is tragic and I hope the police catch whoever is responsible immediately. |
Because it's crazy to suggest a wealthy art collector and Japanese martial artist instructor for three types of martial arts, one of which included swords and knives, had Japanese swords and knives? Crazy. Not suggesting a duel ( like they blog about) but that those could have been weapons. It's hard I know. ![]() |
I'm so sorry you've lost a friend and her family in this terrible tragedy. |

The homeowners or criminals could have guns. Even if a handgun was difficult to obtain in DC, they are sold in every other state. Maryland is just a short drive from Woodley Park. Driving a stolen car across state lines is not a federal capital offense. Kidnapping and hostage taking resulting in death is a federal capital crime. |
Why would it? |
